Should i buy an Xbox?

Post by nesmaster » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:15 am

I'm thinking about getting an Xbox but i dont really know of many good games for it. I already own a 360 so is it worth getting one?

If you have the space for one then I don't see why not, they cost next to nothing to get these days and have some great games available on them.
Sega released a few cracking games including Jet Set Radio Future (sequel to JSR, HUGE levels to explore and loads of extras to unlock) and Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Both Otogi games are fine games with excellent graphics and atmosphere as well as fully destructable environments which make them personal favourites of mine (though both are "marmite" games). The same company also did the Import only Metal Wolf Chaos which exchanged the feudal Japan setting for modern day America, samurais for Mechs but kept the carnage and destruction. A great (if slightly repetitive) game that also has one of the cheesiest vocieovers/stories in recent history.
Also, if you have some spare cash then this is one reason to get an Xbox:

My favourite Xbox game: Steel Battalion. Standard gameplay, you pilot a big robot and destroy other big robots, what makes it unique is the huge 40 button controller (and pedals) that the game comes with, its hard at hell at first but becomes second nature in no time at all.

Its also worth noting the 360 has problems playing certain original Xbox games for example Fable has random sound bugs and Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike has a tone of slowdown.

As you're in Bromwicham the large amount of games at Cex Merry Hill for about £1.50 to £2.50 means that the answer has to be yes. I've found massive irritating gaps in the backwards compatibility offered by the 360 (see other post about Namco Museum), such as the first two games I tried, Mashed and Taito Legends. Panzer Dragoon Orta crashes halfway through. This is why my 360 hasn't retired my XBox to the bottom of the wardrobe in the same way that the PS2 retired my PS1.

My faves - PGR2, Sid Meier's Pirates, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crimson Skies, Mashed, Outrun 2006 (PS2 version is better though) pretty much all of the Burnouts, Fahrenheit, Forza and probably a load of other stuff I've missed out.

If you know someone who knows someone and can get the machine chipped then it becomes the Mother Lode of all emulation on your TV as well - this may well be even more of an argument in it's favour than the actual XBox games.

Oh yeah you should get an xbox.

Plus with games available dirt cheap it can be a fairly affordable investment.

I knoiw its been mentioned in this thread already but I find the BC of the 360 with xbox games dire. I thought it was about 98% BC but quite a few of my original xbox games wont run on my 360.

There's too many good XBox games to not consider it.

I remember when I got my one, it was about a year after the 360 was out, and I still haven't upgraded yet.

Some of my favourites:
Beyond Good & Evil
Burnout Revenge
Godzilla: Save the Earth
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
Hunter: The Reckoning
Jaws Unleashed
Kung Fu Chaos
Metal Slug 3
Ninja Gaiden
Oddworld: Munch's Oddyssey
Otogi: Myth of Demons
Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
OutRun 2
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Phantom Crash
Red Ninja: End of Honour
Serious Sam
Shenmue II
SNK vs Capcom Chaos
SSX On Tour

The Taito, Tecmo, Sonic, Capcom and Midway collections are great too. Get one fast!

Worth it for Street Fighter 3rd Strike alone!!

Cracking DVD player too - unfortunately you need a remote and IR unit to use it!!

The xbox has an amazing backcatalogue of games. Thought I'd give a mention to Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, one of my fav games on the xbox.

Well done.

I think some XBOX games are as good as the 360 versions, ignoring the obvious improvement in graphics.

Just Cause

to name a few off the top of my head.

Worth it ... for the few XBox compatible games.
Bored of the recent releases, bought GTAIV and just bored me 1/4 of the way through. Apart from the few gems here and there, there seems to be a lot of the generic, franchise stuff.

And PS3 isn't a good alternative for Metal Gear Solid as that's a bit of a drag.

If find myself trying to track down 1st gen XBox games now!

I posited the same question last year; the thread covers a stack of classic games, and branches into modding (I ended up getting another couple of boxes besides my original mark 1 model; both now sport 160gb hard disks and media center, emulators and so on - a fantastic console) ... light=xbox
