SEGA’s classic arcade racer returns, but this time it’s in stunning HiDef and available via PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Developed by acclaimed Sheffield studio Sumo Digital, OutRun Online Arcade, will be available early 2009.

Test your time, speed and handling ability as you race through vibrant, colourful stages and rediscover the 15 glorious OutRun courses. From the steep streets of San Francisco to the beautiful beaches of California, it’s mile after mile of unrelenting acceleration, thrills and action. Feel the kick as you put your foot to the floor in one of the 10 high-performance, fully licensed Ferrari cars as you race your way across the U.S. to a killer soundtrack.

For the first time on PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE, OutRun Online Arcade delivers online multiplayer racing for up to 6 players, with fast paced OutRun, Heart Attack and Time Attack modes, the draw to the open road has never been so appealing. OutRun Online Arcade on Xbox LIVE will feature achievements [,leaderboards] and voice; and on PlayStation Network will include trophies, voice over IP and leaderboards.

That's good news - as the XBox version wasn't much cop (poor frame-rate) and is even worse under the 360's emulation (frame-rate, graphical artefacts and sounds looping when they shouldn't in the front-end).

Holy crap, I've only just found out about this. Outrun 2 in Hd, with online leaderboards and achievement points :D Will probably be 1200 points but who cares.

Yes, I thought my ears had gone funny when the tyres started squealing constantly on the menu. Even with the slowdown and 'artifacts' (oh, get you) its still a great game. I'm really looking forward to this update.

i can't say i've noticed any problems with either OR2 or C2C on my 360.... apart from on C2C the lines on the road seem a little fuzzy and a couple of minor problems with the checkpoint lines on the road

but i'll still be getting the xbla version :D

Lets hope that the online play isn't a laggy mess, like the PC version when cars would disappear then reapper right in front of you.

Count me in. Massive fan of Outrun 2 and Coast 2 Coast here :D It's one of only a select few racing games that I actually like and play with any sort of regularity so it must be good!

Oh, yes! I'll be there! I'm a massive Outrun fan, but I agree - the 360 emulation of OR2 is very jerky in parts.

Sounds very promising. Great to have a classic arcade game available for online play.

I'd prefer an Outrun 3, but I guess this will do in the mean time :D
