Definitive version of Resident Evil?

Post by RivaOni » Wed Apr 26, 2006 5:02 am

Just wondering which is the best version of Resident Evil to look into getting?

I know theres:

Resident Evil - PlayStation
Resident Evil - Saturn
Resident Evil Directors Cut - PlayStation
Resident Evil - PC
Resident Evil - Gamecube

If I've missed any, let me know, could you also state why you think the one you've chosen is the better release?

IMO Resident Evil-Director's Cut on the PS and Resident Evil on the Cube are the best choices here. You just have to decide whether you want oldschool or highend graphics :D

Well their both probably cheap right? I have seen REmake in Gamestation for about £7. I'll probably get both of those, purely because of the Old-Skool and also I've heard REmake is slightly more playable in terms of the controls (one thing I hated about Resi)

For me the GC version is the best one, fantasic graphics combined with the great game play of the first game.

There's also the new DS version - Deadly Silence - which is RE1 with multiplayer games and touch-screen activities...

Well I would say there are two options here.
If you want to play the original RE I personally think the Saturn version has less loading times than the PS version; and I have tried this on more than one PS!
Game-play and graphics wise I wouldn’t say theirs much to chose between the PS and Saturn version. The PC version I haven’t played, so can’t give an opinion. I have heard it has got some problems though!

The GameCube game isn’t just a revamped version with better graphics it has significantly different game-play and plot elements. Personally I would recommend ether of the original versions then playing the GameCube REmake version.

If going for the PS version you would probably be just as well getting the Directors Cut. It has the original game plus a version with extras.

Thanks alot everyone, I'll keep an eye out for the directors cut going cheap (not Bedford Gamestation then, not Ps1 games there are less than £10!) and pick up the cube one too.

Totally agree. Director's Cut has a special place in my heart (just above the left aorta) and I've just got the GC remake and it's classy. I prefer RE Zero on the GC to the remake however.

Be warned: the control system on the GC still sucks. I wish they'd bothered to address that in the remake. But seeing as you can't escape it then the GC version is worth playing.

Pick control type C for the Cube version, as that's the best (left/right on the stick, and press R to walk/run instead of forward)

I would go with Resident Evil: Apoclypse!

Don't bother with the crappy games, you are better off watching Mila Jojovich running around with big guns!
