F-Zero vs. Wipeout

Post by thl » Wed Oct 01, 2008 11:58 am

As I played few futuristic racing games during the 90s, I was very impressed with the concept. Having to take place in the future, it brings in a new dimension to the gaming scene. Unlike those Formula 1 cars, the hovercars were in place and ready to travel at top speed.

When I first played F-Zero on the SNES, I was so blown by it. The Mode 7 engine was incredibly immersive that I never came across with technology like that before. Plus the game speed was brilliant which rans very smoothly at 60fps. Also I was quite impressed with the Wipeout series, but never got into it as much as the F-Zero series.

Which one would you choose?

F Zero for me. X got me into the series with the awesome track designs and addictive gameplay and GX gave me more. Difficulty was just right, with it being just hard enough without being ridiculous. Love the soundtracks to each game as well.
I do like Wipeout but I just never clicked with the series, I always got so far into each game then hit a brick wall and could advance no further. Brill series but I'm just not that good at any of them

Wipeout kills F-Zero IMO
Much more control to master, especially getting the hang of the airbrakes at the higher speeds. It's also far cooler, great design (I mean graphic design) soundtrack is awesome, etc. There's just something very satisfying about doing perfect laps, hitting all the boosts at high speeds without scraping the walls etc.

F-Zero is Wipeout for babies :)

F-Zero, the series has got more character (except for X) than the wipeout series. GX is the best future racer ever, it still looks and plays amazing.

I had always sided with F-Zero before playing Zone mode on Wipeout HD. The original Wipeout lost my interest quickly and I prefer racing without weapons, but F-Zero has something to prove now and I don't see it doing it on the Wii.

F-Zero through the years... ^^

But for me.... Wipeout... I got really good at the PSone version when it first came out.

Soundtrack was awesome. Chemical Brothers track was my fave and they played it at their concert i went to last December. :)

F-Zero all the way. It's not even a competition.

WipEout leaves a bad taste in my mouth, it has none of the SPEED or gameplay of F-Zero and was one of the games that spearheaded true commercial gaming. Pure tat.

I don't think their competitors. You might as well do Mario vs Monkey Island.

F-Zero (in N64 and Gamecube forms) is unarguably the better RACER though.
Agreed, it's like a little Nintendo kiddie version of Wipeout..
Ah, the "has weapons equals mature" arguement.
