Game Music

Yeah, FFIII (japanese numbering I think). Excellent. Killer Instinct 1 and 2 I think have some of the best game music ever, especially the more gothic tracks.
Western RPGs are usually worth a look too, Ultima VIII has an awesome soundtrack. Morrowind too though in a more traditionally "filmic" way. I like the original music in Frontier.
In game-related music Elite the musical is worth checking out for a laugh.

Double awesome.
Totally agree with Rambo II also Master of Magic, and Heroes of Karn on the C64 hold a special place music wise.
A bit newer but Black Lamp my first ST game was pretty Jolly.

For me anything on the Amiga like Agony/SOTB series/Project X/all the Turricans, are what got me into producing music, watching them tracks laid out in front of you when loaded up in OctaMed was wicked (an early education)
Oh Hired Guns had a cool soundtrack kina like a Dust Brothers/Fight Club sound with them wha whas n beats

Well too many to mention... Game music is something very underused these days as they tend to favour licsenced music instead (v. Sad)
But my favourite gamemusics are (apart from CsotN and FF7):-
LionHeart & No Second Prize- Matthias Steinwachs
Harlequin - Barry Leitch
Chambers Of Shaolin (ST) - Jochen Hippel
Stardust & Super Stardust - Dunno who?
Pinaball Series (DICE) - Olaf Gustaffason
Axelay & Super Castlevania 4 - Jaro (Name might be incorrect)
Rayforce & Darius Gaiden- Zuntata
Turrican 3 - Chris Huelsbeck
Quake - Trent Reznor & Sonic Mayhem
Last Ninja Remix - Ryen Ouwehand & Anthony Lees
Last Ninja 2 - Matt Gray
Switchblade - Ben Daglish
Warhawk - Rob Hubbard
VIZ & Smash TV (c64) - Jeron Tel (MoN)
Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, Plok, Solstice (Follin Brothers)
Speedball & Wrath Of The Demon (David Whittaker)
Most pf the music files I have are usually in Jam, Sidplay or MP3 so the means to listen to these are quite easy.

Good call! Particularly the game over music (my current text alert, much to the annoyance of my work mates!)boyo wrote:Shadow of The Beast 2 on the Amiga.
I suppose the obvious ones (outrun, streets of rage etc) are a given, Symphony of the Night has a fantastic soundtrack, as does Final Fight in my opinion!
I used to love the music on Jaguar xj220 and the lotus games for the Amiga! And that really hardcore rave track on Ridge Racer....Rotterdam Nation i believe it was called!
Is it just me, or do racers have the some of the best soundtracks? I suppose its because they have more time (ie the race) to play some more in depth tunes........

Sounds good to me!boggyb68 wrote:My favourite game music of all time is the highscore entry music on Parallax on the C64. Absolutely stirring stuff and a Martin Galway classic... in fact I'm going to listen to it in my SID collection right now....

Good call. I loved all of the soundtrack to Sonic 2 too.ShadowMan wrote: Sonic 2's entire soundtrack was also packed with freat tunes. I absolutely love the Mystic Cave, Oil Ocean, Metropolis, Emerald Hill and Chemical Plant Zones.
I would say that Super Cars 2 has THE best soundtrack though followed by the original F Zero on the SNES.

man there's all sorts
Streets of rage II is great, i used to play that just to listen to the music someimes
My mp3 player plays .nsf and .spc (nes and snes) sound files and currently has Castlevania 2, Castlevania 3 (JPN with extra music channels) Kid Icarus [all nes] and F-Zero, Link to the past, F-zero and Street Fighter II Turbo [snes]
Quite often at work me and another giuy will start humming/whislting a tune from Marrio Kart of Street Fighter and the other one will join in without realising.
I would also reccommend www.kohina.net for some retro game radio
