What game(s) are you best at?

Post by sscott » Tue Aug 26, 2008 2:15 pm

Simple thread this. Of all the games you have played, which game(s) are you really good at?
For me it has to be Virtual Pool 3 on PC, out of a leaderboard of 10,000 I was consistently in the top 50. I think I'm ace at Wave Race and 1080 on the N64 as well as Zybex on the Atari XL.
How about you? :)

Games I really good at:
  • Street Fighter II - but not the Turbo or Super versions because the timing's all wrong
  • Duck Hunt (NES) - was playing it last night and got to round 14 with no trouble at all
  • Head Over Heels (CPC/Speccy) - one of my all time favourites that I never seem to get tired of
  • Knights v2.4 (Amiga) - a public domain game, made entirely in AMOS, where you and another player are pitted in a dungeon, kinda Gauntlet style, but you can customise the mission parameters down to the last detail. A firm favourite of mine & my brothers!
  • Sneech! (Amiga) - a shareware game, written in AMOS Professional, which is a snakes clone, but with up to 10 players (6 human players max, with 4 player adaptor and two on keyboard)
  • Qwak (Amiga) - a Team17 budget platformer, see my Retro Gamer Club game that I recommended
  • Project X (Amiga) - I wasn't as good as I am now, Retro North proved that, but recently I've become quite good at it ..... Markopoloman - watch out, we've got to have another Project X challenge at the next gaming event!
  • Gauntlet/Gauntlet II (any format) - another firm favourite. Can get quite far, even on my own!
  • Rez (PS2/REZ/XBLA) - excellent stuff, completed it once (in normal mode) not mastered the Score Attack yet though!
I'm not great at games in general, but there's some that I shine at!

I consider myself rather useful at:

Sensible World of Soccer - Amiga
Pro Evo - PS1
Football / Champ Manager - PC
Rage Racer - PS1

I am absolutely crap at beat-em-ups and shooters but I still love them.

Run and gun games seem to be the genre I'm best at, as I simply love the tough difficulty curb that most have such as Shinobi, Contra, Metal Slug, Ghosts n Goblins but especially any Megaman game. Don't know why but they just really click with me and I have no trouble working out the patterns/best ways to beat each game.

Forgot about some of those, I used to be bloody good at Shinobi, Shadow Dancer and Strider although I've kinda lost my form at them.
I was playing Super Ghoulds 'n' Ghosts the other day, and I was surprised at how well I did.

Spy Vs Spy (C64)

The Last Ninja series (C64)

Infilltrator(C64)

IK+(Wii)

My gaming skills vanished once I upgraded from a C64 which was also the time I discovered Girls.

i suppose these, but i don't pretend to be a master of them, apart from axelay and thunder force 3 which i *used* to repeatedly clock:

-sega rally (saturn)
-gunstar heroes (MD)
-axelay
-gynoug
-steel empire
-eswat (md)
-contra 3
-xmen vs street fighter (saturn)
-thunder force 3 (md)
-shinobi (arcade) and md versions
-strider (arcade/md)
-ghouls n ghosts (arcade/md)
-dr robotniks mean bean machine
-puzzle fighter 2

the above represent my mispent teenage years, i have loads of newer shooters / fighters for the saturn etc. which i just don't have the time to invest in to get good at them.

Well, I like Ridge Racer 4 and I'm quite good at that.

Also, Activision's 2600 game, Dragster. Quite a fun, very short game that's over in six seconds. I casually played it one evening, got a bit good at it. Turns out I was getting a stupidly good time, not far from the actual record. I put it down to luck as I'm crap at most games.
