Capcom shooters

Post by Oh not again! » Tue Aug 19, 2008 5:51 pm

I know Capcom are best known for their fighting games, but what are the top-recommended must-play shooters they released?

I'm not a great fan of Capcom's shooters, but I really like Varth, and Area-88/UN Squadron (but maybe that's more to do with the music on the SNES version).

Weird verisimilitude in the appearance of this thread after I'd decided to spend the night playing CPS-1/2 shmups for the first time in ages - inspired by the Forgotten Worlds piece in this month's RG.

My fave Capcom shmups are probably 1942 (still a damn playable game), 19XX (seriously underrated!), Varth, Carrier Airwing (not the best Capcom shooter but it does star Sean Connery...), Dimahoo, Mars Matrix, Giga Wing, Chariot (on Three Wonders), Eco Fighters and of course Progear... That lot should keep you busy for a while :)

Progear, definitely.

Carrier Airwing :) I still have the arcade board, it's awesome.

I really like most Capcom shooters actually. They've made some awesome stuff in the past most mentioned already.

- 1941
- 1942
- 1943 Kai
- Mercs

Forgotten Worlds is my favourite of Capcoms shoot em ups. Fast paced gameplay with a good balance on difficulty, some brilliant and huge bosses as well!
