What MAME front end do you use?

Post by Bub&Bob » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:45 am

I use MAMEUI32 but its quite limited I think in its functionality.

Am thinking about trying something new - I guess a lot of people use MAMEWAH but isn't it quite complicated?

So, what do you use?
What are the strong points / features and its limitations?

I always swore by MAME Classic. Dated a bit now but it did all I ever wanted and Richard is very good at suporting it, sometimes patching within hours of a bug report or feature request.

Classic MAMEUI32, I used MAMEWah some time ago, but I still stick to the classic version. Also tried GameEx, not bad, already wanted to buy/donate.

Maximus is indeed a very attractive front-end for MAME and extremley flexible. It costs a few £ but is far and away the best font-end I have seen/heard and it supports loads of emulators as well.

If you want to pay for one then definitely use Maximus, its a fantastic FE, arguably the most impressive looking with some excellent features and active technical support and development.

I use Mamewah, its probably the most difficult in terms of initial setup, but I like its hands on and flexible architecture. Its certainly not flashy, but it supports everything, has dozens of fantastic skins, is very easy to customise with your own sounds, pics, vids etc, and has a small resource footprint.
It is ideal to use as an every day FE...(if you can get past the 'bite your keyboard' learning curve).
