Good arcade games which never got converted to home formats?

Post by Katzkatz » Sun Aug 17, 2008 7:57 am

Does anyone have good arcade games which they wanted converted to home formats? Do they know the reason why they weren't? I can only really think of Aliens for the moment. Many a 20 p did I pop into that arcade machine (I surprised with the amount of noise it gave off!). Now I play it on MAME.

Virtua Cop III. :(

Despite the arcade version running on xbox-based hardware, sega apparently decided the home market wasn't big enough to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know if Tron was converted? Does anyone know if Sega's Wing War was converted as well?

I think Tron got a few conversions on older home systems. It's also on Xbox Live Arcade.

I'd love to have had a home conversion of Sega's Scud Race. It just fell between the technologies of the Saturn and Dreamcast (in launch date, not power) so didn't ever get converted. The tracks were given a guest appearance in Outrun2, but still..

I think an arcade-accurate port of Contra has been made, but it's either Japan-only and/or on a handheld system. I'd really like to see a home console release (re: can be played on the big screen) of that game that is 100% accurate to the arcade because the NES version isn't.
The RAU Gallery - It's something...I guess...About 90% sure, anyway.

Chequered Flag

Sinister (williams)...only prototypes are known to exist (esp. the A8 version)

can't think of any more...backto playing mame

I think there was a version of Contra released for home computers, it was done under the name 'gryzor' i remember it for the c64, it was done by ocean...gryzor for the home'puters is contra on the nes/sms etc, in the same way that Green Beretfor home 'puter is Rush 'n attack on the nes

Scud Race, the fact this game never got a proper home release is nothing short of criminal.

I don't think that the Tron Arcade game got a conversion until the bonus on Tron 2.0 Killer App for GBA. There were some Tron games of course, most notably Tron: Deadly Discs for the Intellivision and Atari2600.

Lots of great arcade games that never have made it to a home format:

Daytona 2
Scud Race
Lost World Jurasic Park
Progear
19xx Loop Master
Armoured Police Batrider
Mario Kart
Top Skater
Star Wars Trilogy
Club Kart
Lets Go Jungle

Quite a lot of 2D shooters can be added to the list. Hopefully there will be a conversion of the new silent hill in the near future too.

Lots of games spring to mind, my choices would be:

Battle Circuit (Capcom, CPS2)
Armoured Warriors (Capcom, CPS2)
Buriki One (SNK, Hyper Neo Geo 64)
Alien Vs Predator (Capcom, CPS2)
Violent Storm (Konami, Jamma)
Spiderman (Sega, Sega System 32)
X-men: The Arcade Game (Konami, Jamma)

All brilliant beat em up games (except Buiki One) that for whatever reason never got a home port.

I wish they had converted Gauntlet 1 or 2 over to the Snes, that would have been great with a multi-tap.

Michael Jacksons Moonwalker (arcade) never got a true conversion to the home formats.

Wrestlefest would have been another I would have liked to have owned on a console.
WANTED: Mario Party 3 on N64 (just the Box only) ANY SNES GAMES, OR EMPTY SNES BOXES, INSTRUCTION MANUALS or WHITE INNER TRAYS.

Sinistar got a release on the BBC Micro, and on Megadrive as part of the Williams Arcade Classics set...
