Looking for a PC Controll Pad For Games

Post by James Bond » Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:17 pm

I've acquired a Snes emulator, and I have some edited versions of Super Mario World (I can assure you lot now, I wouldn't obtain anything I don't already own, as I am actually against it, however fan edits I'll happily play).

What pad would you recommend?

The whole emulation guilt thing isn't really an issue here. 8)

Personally I would recommend either using a wired 360 pad or a DualShock 2 (the PC USB adapters are about £6).

Feel free to add me on XBL.

I'd recommend a SNES controller:

I've got lots of emulators and use a Microsoft Sidewinder for all of them :)

I use my XBox 360 controller on both 360 and PC (although never done any emulation). I've used a lot of controllers over the years, and for what it's worth I'd rate the 360 pad as the best. Also, for your SNES games the button layout is pretty much perfect!

The dpad on the 360 pad has to be the worst dpad of any pad, i've ever used, from the sms onwards.

They really are garbage, even the old xbox s pads dpad's were more responsive.

Ah, but it's not a d-pad but a hat switch; even so, it's only a couple of notches off the best d-pad ever (which was the Mega Drive's).

Get the MadCatz 360 pad. The D-Pad is great, the face buttons flatter and more responsive than the Microsoft one, and the bumpers are more 'button-like'. Great pad.

If you like to solder then you can modify a snes pad, or contoller extension cable, or a multitap to run through the parallel port of your computer and let you use snes pads

Linux has built in support for it, Windows 95/98/ME use the DirectpadPro driver and Win200/XP use the PsxPad driver

I bought a bomberman head multitap two and converted it to run on both snes and PC, best 30 mins tinker time I ever did
