Jason Kelk RIP

Post by Mayhem » Fri Jun 18, 2021 12:34 pm

Sadly our friend and the writer of so many things passed away earlier today after the longest battle against Covid. I’m sure you’ll join me in condolences.

Tragic news. Just read on facebook Jason Kelk has sadly passed away due to COVID

He fought a valiant battle for ages as he was in hospital for so long. Met Jason several times at retro shows and he was so friendly and would make time for anyone

Always enjoyed his retro section in the magazine he wrote.

Genuinely gutted as he was such a nice bloke. Such sad news for his wife

This is awful, I knew he was struggling with it still but thought he was at least stable. So sad to hear this, he was such a great part of the community.

Devastating for his family and for all who knew this rather wonderful, kind person.

This was a weird one, names ive never been good with (Forum handles have spoiled us) but I recognise a few faces so had to google his name and figured out who he was.
Its a real shame to lose someone that was well known and liked in the retro community.

Terribly sad to hear this news. Retrogamer was the first forum I ever signed up for, and being naturally reticent I wondered whether I would ever get used to online communication. Jason was one of the reasons I went on to post regularly for some time here, picking his brains about Commodore 64 stuff especially. I remember when he said that he often walked around “thinking in hex” - I thought that was absolutely brilliant. It was a great pleasure to finally meet to him at one of the computer fairs (Blackpool, I think?) and chat at some length. He was a friendly and fascinating chap, and I’m sure he will be hugely missed by his family, friends, and colleagues at RG as well. My thoughts go out to them.

RIP Jason.

I’ve known Jason a long time, enjoyed chatting to him at various retro events and was even privileged to see some of his unfinished projects in the past.

He was a great programmer of games and demos, and he helped a lot of people through various blog posts, articles and other tutorials. He helped me out on a couple of Retro Gamer articles too, putting me in touch with people.

He was modest and talented, generous and quirky. He will be missed.

The Yorkshire Post article is very sad to read, but read it we should.

Jason was just one of those people that even though I never spoke to him, he was very recognisable and you always expect to see him at events. R.I.P.

Awful news. He was a lovely fella.

I've really missed his Homebrew section over the last year, always loved his enthusiasm for new games on old machines.

Condolences to his family and everyone who knew him.

The Homebrew section was one of the best parts of the magazine thanks to Jason, he will be missed.
