The House of the dead remake trailer

It wont be the same without a gun
On the positive, at least they're remaking a game that they lost the source code for.

On the downside, what's the bloody point without a gun? I've tried playing lightgun games with pads before and it's always a dull experience that completely misses the point.

This could have done with being a thing when they ported HotD 2 + 3 to the Wii back in the day - a console that could at least do a decent job of imitating the gun experience.
Sega arent doing the remake.
The Wii could of gotten so many unported gun games, but it didnt

They could surely just use the pointer functionality of the right Joycon. It might not feel much like a gun, but it'll still work more or less the same as a Wiimote.

Failing that, maybe they'll do a Typing of the Dead remake for PC.

Are they really doing this as just a pad controlled game? I was interested until this, I assumed they had a joycon pointer system worked out for a gun mount. Now it's a game I will never buy.

There's nothing confirmed either way yet. The only relevant text in the trailer is 'updated controls' which - given that it can't use a traditional light gun with a modern TV - could mean pretty much anything.

Still, given that it's a ground-up remake and the Switch supports pointer controls that have been used well in a number of other games, I'm inclined to be optimistic. I'm sure we'll find out more before long too.

Anyone tried this, or can recommend a similar product? Had no idea they were a thing but this would be great for my shmups on Switch

I have actually looked into making an arcade stick for one using a nackered wired controller I have, I really cant play anything on either the Joycon of Hori pad D-pad.
I just need to get the joystick parts first

The Flip Grip has been around for a while and seems to be the standard for this sort of thing, I've only heard good things about it. Not used one myself.

Just completed Resident Evil Revelations 2. Really enjoyed this. Recommended if you haven't played it, plus it's always on sale on the digital store.
I think both Revelations games are a bit overlooked. The Raid modes are good fun too.

They were better than 5 or 6, if that's not damning with faint praise.

I don't think the first game has aged well though. It was good for its time, given the limitations of the 3DS, but on anything capable of HD graphics - Switch included - it looks pretty rough. The second is right in the sweet spot for 720p handheld, mind you.

My 12 year old son hasn't played his Switch in the last 6 months. Shame, some great games in his collection.

Nintendo announced Game Builder Garage, basically what it says on the tin, make your own game etc. Coming next month if I remember right?

I'd have to say that it looks a bit simple compared to existing Switch game creation tools like Fuze, SmileBASIC and RPG Maker.

You could actually create a pretty decent game with one of those if you were to put the effort in; Yume Nikki, To The Moon and several other indie hits were made with RPG Maker on other platforms even.

Also, will it come with the ability to detect if you're trying to make a Mario/Zelda/Metroid homebrew and launch an automated lawsuit?
