Re: Bomb Jack - Not a fan

Best played with friends in a vicious, competitive spirit.

Re: Bomb Jack - Not a fan
This is purely subjective, but I hate the graphics, play mechanics, sound, concept, pretty much everything about the game leaves me dead cold.
HADDOCKEN!

Re: Bomb Jack - Not a fan
I would not say it was terrible, but it is clearly meant to be a money-grabber. The C64 conversion was pretty poor as well, and that really put me off the arcade game for a long while.

Never liked it, never really understood what's going on. It's not the most intuitive of games.
And the Commodore 16 version took several days to load. And it was crap.

You're all sacriligious muppets!
Give the Spectrum version a chance and you'll likely have a (slightly) more favourable view.

Never got the Bombjack love, it was always bitty, annoying and well just pants.
Played a number of versions from Atari ST through to the Arcade, but each time id get bored turn it off and do something infinitely more interesting instead

You can't shoot things.
In all seriousness, it's an odd little coin-op that I usually only played while I was waiting for the game I really wanted to play to become available. It was a decent little time-killer in that sense, but the gameplay mechanics never really grabbed me.

C16's Bombjack wasn't that bad, graphics were OK if a bit blocky with not the best collision-detection, and it did badly miss the power pellets if I recall correctly. I still found it playable enough. The sequel Bomjack II wasn't bad either if a little strange.clarance wrote:Never liked it, never really understood what's going on. It could have been like C16's Ghosts'n'Goblins. Now that was horrendous

Well I just don't get Bomb Jack I suppose - for that matter, most of Elite's games on the C16 were pretty disappointing - can't think of a good one right now.

Not perfect, naturally it wouldn't be. But it has the 2-player mode and tanks. Good game.

I hated it too.
Just such a boring, uninteresting game. A friend of mine was a fan and I had to sit and watch him play it on the Amiga and sitting watching it was worse than a toothache, so dull.
