Best classic Sega franchise?
For the forum poll bit for Let's All Play next month. Of the seven IP's listed which is the best Sega franchise?
Re: Best classic Sega franchise?
SOR - bit of a no-brainer really, for me anyhow.

I'd have said Shinobi or Sonic (pre-3D awfulness), but then Afterburner Climax came along and made love to my eyes.

As much as I like SOR series
My heart is with Afterburner and its associates
Afterburner, Afterburner II, G-Loc, Afterburner III/Strike Fighter, Afterburner: Climax, Afterburner: Black Falcon
From the incredible soundtrack has taken me to finding out more about the S.S.T and tracking down the live performances especially the Afterburner Medley.

There's only one of those games making a splash, wave goodbye to the others, you may feel a passing breeze as they're Out Run.

I've had to go with outrun. Absoloutely brilliant, not necessarily the best, but the most influential by far imo.

When i think of classic Sega its definitely Outrun that comes to mind.

My heart says Sonic because the original game is easily one of the best of the 8-16 bit era but on the whole id say Golden Axe.
Purely for Nostalgia because Golden Axe is the first game I ever played on the Megadrive.

Sonic, easily - when I first saw it running I dribbled all over Rumblerlow's windows.

While I like all of the games in the poll, Streets of Rage is the one that I always come back to the most. Classic 90's Sega and a true example of what they could do before they went down the toilet.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.
Re: Best classic Sega franchise?
Streets of rage - the whole series is pure class .

Re: Best classic Sega franchise?
The Sonic name was eventually badly hit by changing what made it work so well but there's a reason the average person when hearing the word Sega will mention Sonic. That or "doesn't that mean something offensive in Italian?" anyway.

While I'm aware that Streets of Rage and OutRun have near-perfect records, the original Sonic games on Mega Drive are, to my mind, simply untouchable.
