It's not even close to being the first weapons based arcade fighting game.

There's an old vector game, I forget the name, with a top down view of two knights(?) that sword fight. That's the earliest I remember offhand.

I didn't watch it all, just skimmed it as it's not a favourite genre, but the text below the video says "The history of the first weapons based arcade fighting game", that was what prompted my comment.
