Invert Y podcast

Post by big mean bunny » Tue Jul 28, 2015 4:36 am

Hi all

not really around here much (although I read the magazine more than ever and usually have a look in the for sale section every couple of weeks). Myself and a buddy have started a podcast, first episode is up now and recording the 2nd later this week. It has a fairly light hearted look at games from all generations. Quite a lot about Sega Rally on this weeks so am obviously after listens, but thought people here might actually enjoy it, my mate hates retro gamers however as those who know me know, I am pretty into it :)

You can currently listen to it here, but it's also been submitted for iTunes but here that takes a while for the first approval.

A podcast from someone who hates us? Hmmm...

Incdentally, there have been Knight Rider games, and they're average at best. The old 8 bit ones were rubbish, and the PS2/PC ones were somewhat lacking.

Oh, and I can't find the podcast in iTunes on my phone, and the iTunes subscribe link on the website doesn't seem to work on my phone either. I can't access the iTunes store on my PC for subs, as any time I try to sub it crashes (not just for your podcast, for all of them - I really need to remove and reinstall but it's too much of a pain when usually subbing on the phone transfers the sub to the PC).

It's still waiting on being accepted by iTunes, although their support agents seems to think I have borked it up. I had a knightrider game and am thinking it was on the Amstrad. Didn't know there was a ps2 one though. I just felt that it would work well with that Batman format, Those Batman games for me are the spiritual successor to Streets of Rage for me. The Combat just feels perfect.

Is there any retro stuff talked about? I got about an hour in and iirc it was all modern gaming. Ages on really new stuff, then some chat about Cube sort of gen stuff, but nothing really from 8/16 bit eras.

Other than two people saying old games were rubbish  not in this episode no. Hopefully more in the future but didn't want to make the episode too long. Going to do a first consoles feature soon though. Us getting a nes was the reason why I am a game nut, had an Amstrad but was perhaps too young to have any decent memories of it, bar a few football sims, space harrier and a handful of others I recognise but probably wouldn't be able to play and remember the levels like I can the nes stuff.

Sega Saturn was probably about as old as it got.

We are live on iTunes now should anyone have been holding off for that.

Now on to episode 14 but thought I'd actually come and post a link as this particularl show is not only strictly Sega Mega drive (and no modern talk!) but includes Graeme who writes for the mag so thought you might actually be interested in this one.

Thanks f or the heads up. I'll make a point of listening to this one, been a while since I did so. This far in you should be comfortable with your format and routine so should be decent. Well done, by the way. So many of these shows just tail off after the first few episodes.

How's your download figures? Getting a good size audience?

Well I don't know how to track iTunes downloads however every time a podcast goes up it gets between 14-20 downloads straight away showing up on Podmatic's stats and then crawls up to between 40-60 total over time, recently we've started to break the top 10 gaming charts on there. And then the iTunes ones on top of that, our popularity bar on there always indicates downloads takes place but it doesn't give a clue of the number.

The issue we have had is we maybe only do once a month and now something like 3 out of the last 5 haven't had Gary on as has been hard to get a time slot from him we both stick too, also we aren't quite a retro pod and not quite a modern one so it hasn't been as easy to pin down a regular audience as say a specific format pod. Enjoy making them though.
