HdE's Totally Unoriginal Gaming Show

Post by HdE » Thu Aug 16, 2018 10:32 am

I figure this is probably as good a time as any to start banging the drum about my Youtube channel. It's been in the pipeline for a while as it was originally due to launch in April of this year. But good old Youtube and their stupid January policy update meant I had to alter my plans substantially.

There's not a whole lot of gaming content up so far, but for those who are inclined to give them time of day, I can present a few offerings. DRUM ROLL PLEASE!

I launched last week with a retrospective review of GALAXIAN for the Atari 2600:

You can watch it here:
https://youtu.be/W1rDItBvFpU

This week's follow-up was a bit more contemporary, with a look at Mike Bithell's SUBSURFACE CIRCULAR for the Nintendo Switch.

You can find that one here:
https://youtu.be/iwc_ZVLnAAI

Folks visiting the channel will notice there's a selection of anime reviews on it as well. These are a holdover from my previous channel, which simply became too much trouble to persevere with. But I've left those videos up for the benefit of those viewers who expressed appreciation for them. And by happy coincidence, there's a gaming connection to a few of them!

I won't post links to all of them, but if Japanese cartoons are your bag, you might get a kick out of watching me mercilessly critique STREET FIGHTER II - THE MOVIE, here...
https://youtu.be/aYsL03cNETk

...and the more recent STREET FIGHTER IV - THE TIES THAT BIND - which I believe has only ever been made available as a bonus pack-in item with the special edition of the game. I might have... erm... begun that one in hero worship mode. Ahem!

Aiming to get another video out next week. Hope you guys enjoy 'em!

Quickly popping in to share this week's video, which I've had to post a day earlier than planned due to stuff and reasons, etc.

In this one, I take a look at the Sega Game Gear version of BUBBLE BOBBLE - and even get into the way it differs from the Master System port it got beforehand.

New video is up! After the cutesy-cutesy of Bubble Bobble and its tinkly tunes, I decided I needed to offset it with the ultra-violence of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE - UNCAGED EDITION for the Playstation 3.

This video also demonstrates the best possible use for the movie if you own it on Blu Ray. Teehee!

The latest video is live now, wherein I have a look at the Atari 7800 version of ASTEROIDS.

New video is up - and this is probably the biggest game I've covered to date. Certainly the biggest video I've uploaded yet! Agh! My poor broadband connection!

This week, I look at HALO: REACH on the Xbox 360.

I'll be taking a couple of weeks out now to sort out some details that will hopefully ensure I can keep putting these videos out. Thanks to everybody who's looked in on them so far.

Had to take a short break from videos to accommodate EGX, some freelance work and a bit of devious plotting for the future. But there's a fresh retro review up right now, of BATTLESHIP for the Nintendo Gameboy.

And special thanks this time to the lovely Octav1us for giving my channel a mention in one of her recent videos! That's given my subscriber count a HUGE boost. So, it seems I have a fighting chance on Youtube after all!

New posty-post for this week's review, wherein I break from the norm and review a book. Namely, the XCOM spin-off novel XCOM 2: RESURRECTION.

Cheers, fella!

I just spotted your comment on the channel and approved it (tons of spam a while back and a couple of pathetic trolls mean that everything gets held in moderation until I okay it, alas. I've set things up for you so that it shouldn't be necessary in future.)

It means a lot to have you subbed. I've been enjoying your own videos for a while now!

New vidly-pooz is up tonight, wherein I take a look at the NES conversion of a bona fide pillar of amusement arcades - no less than the ever hungry PAC-MAN!

Image

Two things I'm curious about:

1. Given the HORRIFIC implications of this game, how did it never spark major media controversy?

2. Given that Pac-Man is always eating, how come it's Sinistar who gets the catchphrase "I HUNGER!"?

Anyway, Japes concluded. Here's the link to the review:

It took a while to get this one uploaded (LOADS of weird issues with ideo capture, and the video itself came out at a ridiculous size) but the latest game to suffer my exacting scrutiny is MARBLE MADNESS on the Sega Master System.

Time for another review-me-do! This one scratches my itch for more Atari stuffs on the channel. Behold Dave Rolfe's awesome BEAMRIDER for the 2600!

YES!

I love this game, it's so under rated and a big favourite of mine.

It might be a Juno First clone but I played this one first, great memories. 😎

And THAT'S the kind of reaction I like to see my videos getting!

I only discovered Beamrider fairly recently - last year, I think. But I've been itching to feature it on the channel since I started uploading.

Some of the games I review for the show get put down as soon as I'm done with the review. But this one still gets played during lunch breaks even now.

One day, I'll get hold of the Intellivision version...
