Inappropriate jokes in Retro Gamer

Post by Randall Flagg » Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:22 am

I found the bit in Jases Rant about the pic of the kid on dads lap a bit dstasteful.

There's humour and humour and at the end of the day i think that went a bit far.

At the end of the day there's lots of parents with kids read this mag and that was just beyond a joke.

we live in a crappy society at the mo where u can't even take a pic of ur kids splashin around in the bath without bein branded a sicko and to let those sort of comments into a gaming mag just isn't right.

We don't proof adverts in the mag, so this has completely passed me by.
I've no problem with the picture, but I can't say I'm at all happy with what has been written to accompany it.

As of 51 I'll be checking any additional promotions to make sure they don't feature anything of the same nature.

I found that whole page odd. If it is an avert then really it should clearly state so.

Issue 50 states it is an advertisement

I thought the layout was strange, but didn't suspect it to be an advert (or at least a non-RG edited feature)

What was it advertising/promoting?

EDIT:

Bless my short attention span, I just read cover-to-cover. :)
I assumed it was a feature written by a guest writer (similar to Archer's columns etc.)

My thinking was either it was an advert or the Retro Gamer team (the designer for doing the layout and Darran for commissioning the page) were having a really dreadfully bad day. Actually, that's a fib: I thought it was pretty obvious that it was an ad (I've seen similar 'fake' columns in loads of other mags), but flagging it as such = a good idea.

It's an advertorial, surely?

If it was an ad, what exactly was it advertising?

I didn't realise it was an ad - just looked again, what it it advertising?

Oh, its retrogames.co.uk

I thought it was a new feature - I honestly thought it was a pile of censored and the this Jace fella was a bit of a c***.

Seriously? We're getting worked up over something THAT mild?

The joke I am not bothered about. Subliminal advertising is wrong though as it suggests that it is the view of RG. And if they don't proof it then it could be saying kill all gingers or something

I found it slightly amusing I must admit. But yes it needs to be made clearer it's an advert.
