What PSX was widely released?

I believe the original Playstation was never officially called a PSX!?
It really was. Although probably not by release.

Oh dear.

Sorry to butt in to someone elses discussion, but I worked at SCEE on the PlayStation console the year before its European release (1994) and it was indeed called the PSX internally at Sony.

No ifs, no buts.

If you read my whole post you would've saw this:
First it was fan named PSX...
Beyond this, there is little reason to suggest that Sony dubbed PlayStation the PSX since as I also mentioned, they later officially/publicly released a PSX, which we all know to be far from a PS1.

So what...

The Wii was called the Revolution BEFORE it was released, does that make it ok for magazines etc to call it a Revolution in the future - NO!

It's not a PSX, it's a Playstation or a PSone, depending on model but it has never been called a PSX except internally, during production and only at Sony.....

... only at Sony Europe, where everyone had been reading Edge. Sony Japan didn't call it that in pre-production.

I refer the honorable gentleman to nRevolution magazine.

The PSX name should not be dropped from history, just like the names VIC-40 or the Atari Panther.

A magazine which jumped the gun and released months before the machines name was publicy announced I might add...

The fact that the machine was at one point known internally as a PSX should not be forgoten but also we don't call a CBM64 a VIC-40....

And here lies the problem in calling something by any other name that that which it was given, it confuses people...

i.e. Was it released on the PSX or the Playstation..?

Just use the name the machine was given and stop messing about, it has NEVER been called a PSX it's a Playstation and if you have trouble remembering this little FACT then just look at the box the console came in, or the instruction manual or the front cover of every game ever released for it and it's writen there in great big letters.. "PLAYSTATION"
Just incase people with a faulty brain box keep forgeting..

In that case: NES or Famicom? Mega Drive or Genesis?
