I also prefer calling the first Playstation PS One or the first Playstation. I also hear and read others quote the 1st Playstation as PS One, so I don't see what the problem is with that. I remember it being referred to as the PSX just before & at the very start of the console's release, until it was called Playstation very shortly afterwards. It was only certain magazines or other sources that did call it the PSX although not when I saw it offically advertised.

I didn't think Sony ever referred to the PS1 as PSX. They did use Playstation-X pre-release, but I don't think they ever contracted it to PSX. That was the journos.
Then some complete fool decided to name another machine PSX. I assume he is no longer employed. Anywhere.

Well, I've been reading RG since issue 1 and I've been on this forum a while now, and I didn't even know there was a console called a PSX. I thought the PlayStation was PSX.

It was called the PSX internally at Sony prior to its release. I worked for SCEE for a short while in '94 and all the internal stuff I saw referred to it as the PSX.

However, what people might not know is that SCEE conducted some marketing seminars with three different age groups to see what they thought of the idea of the PlayStation (the name, the cost, etc.) because they were seriously considering renaming the console to something other than the PlayStation in Europe.

It was interesting because the youngest age group (very early teens) were all really looking foward to the new cool-sounding Nintendo Ultra console, and they basically took the p*** out of the name PlayStation, saying it sounded more like something a baby would play with in their cot!

Not officially. It was termed that by journos and it sort of stuck. I imagine its codename was something odd and Japanesey.

Cant see how some people can hate the Playstation 1 so much ! There were a ton of great games for it, very popular machine. All the pathetic name calling and all that, just embarassing.

On every machine out there theres some games i dont like even on my favourites but i'm not going to call it some playground insult.

PS1, PS2, PS3.

It's like talking about Star Wars. Which one? The first one - oh ok, episode IV.

A Sony Playstation can refer to any of the three consoles now, Star Wars can refer to any of the six movies (books, tv series, etc)...
abso-blinking-lutely correct:)

I said fan name.

Ah, the power of manipulation. Then again, I copy and pasted so the emoticons didn't show up. Still, it doesn't change the fact you took a shot at the Saturn.

If you read my whole post you would've saw this:
First it was fan named PSX...
Beyond this, there is little reason to suggest that Sony dubbed PlayStation the PSX since as I also mentioned, they later officially/publicly released a PSX, which we all know to be far from a PS1.

What PSX was widely released?

I believe the original Playstation was never officially called a PSX!?
