Rapscallion by Imagine for my beloved 48k Spectrum. It cost me 50p and thought it was the best game ever (I was 8, give me a break). Even now, those Teletext style graphics bring a tear to my eye.

Almose 100% sure it was this one: Image
For the unexpanded VIC 20, still a very good home version of space invaders! And I still have the one I bought all those years ago

The first game I remember playing was Manic Miner on the 48k Spectrum (ah, the Blue Danube), but I think my dad bought that one. The first game I remembe buying was one of the Dizzy games (also on the Spectrum) but I don't recall which one.
Throwing a spanner in the works since '77.

Solar Jetman on the NES. I was drawn to that AWFUL commercial they aired for it. When will they stop exploiting young children's fragile minds with shiny things on TV? :)

Technically the first games I ever bought were type-in listings for the ZX-81 in January 1984 edition of 'Sinclair Programs'.

The first one I typed in and got running was called 'Stampede' for the 1K machine (for the record it was written by A Chetwode of Ramsbury, Wilts - apparently)

Looking at the listing (yes, I have the magazine right here) it's a side-scrolling shooter - not bad for 1K in Basic.

[edit - just read back through the thread and this seems to be the only reference to type-in games. I. Feel. Really. Old.]

The first game i ever saw on the Speccy was Jet Pac which made me want a Spectrum more than anything else in my life. I think the first game for the Speccy that i ever handed cash over for was Sabre Wulf & needless to say, the bus shelters didn't get smashed on my street!

Mine was Mr Puniverse on the good ole Commodore 16. All I can recall was seeing it mentioned on GMTV. Eesh I suddenly fel old, this must have been back in 1985.

Sorry for posting so late but I have just got back from the hypnotist after being regressed back to the early 80s

Pick an easy question next time like ...What was the last game you played.....

Mine was also a zx81 game and also from a dodgy department store that was open on a sunday in Newcastle on a Sunday when shops werent even supposed to be open on a sunday.....I was a VERY bored 10 yr old and I found a wire basket on legs with music cassettes and on top of the pile was defenda on the zx81

http://www.zx81stuff.org.uk/zx81/genera ... fenda.html

fantastic cover art + sunday boredom = £2.50 less in front jeans pocket.

It was really good actually...!!!!

Unreliable memory tells me it was the Bitmap Bros' collection for the PC, to allow me to continue to play Cadaver after moving away from the Amiga.
