Questions for Dan Kitche.n

Post by DRS » Mon Jul 27, 2020 4:25 am

Hello all - I'm speaking to Dan Kitche.n this Friday and of all the people I've interviewed over the last 16 years, I think he may have had a hand in most games. The list below isn't even complete! He did some on his own, some with his brother Garry and some he led the team or was the producer, so hopefully lots for you to ask about. Plus he's just released a new Atari 2600 game which gives his tale a nice circularity.

As always, post any questions here and I'll get your name in the mag. Many thanks in advance - this will be in issue 212.

Dan's selected discography:

Apple II
Crystal Caverns
Crime Stopper
The Designer’s Pencil
Garry Cheap MDF rubbish’s GameMaker
Little Computer People

Atari 2600
Crackpots
Ghostbusters
Double Dragon
Tomcat (Also for 7800)
Kung Fu Master (Also for 7800)
River Raid II
Crossbow
Ikari Warriors
Commando
My Golf

Master System
R.C. Grand Prix

Commodore 64
Flight of the Intruder
Crossbow
The Rocky Horror Show

NES
The Simpsons (Bart vs The Space Mutants/Bart vs the World/Bart meets Radioactive Man)
Swamp Thing
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Battle Tank

SNES
Turn and Burn
Ren and Stimpy: Veediots
Casper
Family Dog
Home Improvement
Rocky and Bullwinkle
Super Battle Tank

Game Boy
Bart vs The Juggernauts
Star Trek The Next Generation
Super Breakout
Centipede
Galaga/Galaxian

SEGA CD
Penn and Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors

I’ll stop there but he has also worked on loads of games for the Game Boy Color, GBA, DS, PC, Mac, PS2, PSVita, Xbox, XboxOne. For more see dankitchengames.com

Ha! The forum alters any mention of that room in your house which you cook in and have discos in during lockdown to cheap MDF rubbish! Hey mods, can you call him by his true name? Though Dan Cheap MDF Rubbish could be his rap name. Ta.

That's in place for good reason, you've been here long enough to have seen all that spam!

I've added a full stop - people will work it out.

Did you have official Nintendo development kits?

Were you a fan of Exidy's lightgun games before converting Crossbow?

What was your worst experience of "crunch" to get a game finished?

What do you consider the best game mechanic/control method you created?

What do think is missing from today's popular console games, If anything?

What is your all-time favorite game to play? Not including your own!
