From the Forum - Issue 207: Lockdown gaming

Post by NickThorpe » Thu Apr 16, 2020 7:47 am

Hello all, hope you're staying safe. Today, we're asking a simple topical question:

What retro games are you playing during lockdown?

Darran's been on Doom 64 and Super Metroid (which tragically corrupted his save eight hours in!), while I've been playing SG-1000 games on my new (old) Sega Mark III. However, I'll be doing one of the Yakuza games next week for some virtual tourism, as I was due to fly to Japan for a holiday on Sunday. :(

As always, some answers will be chosen for publication in the magazine.

I'm playing NBA Hangtime on MAME because I read that NBA Jam book. As a challenge I fancied having a go at beating all the teams the game, I'm halfway through at the moment.

I'm trying to beat the all-time high score on arcade (MAME) 'Donkey Kong' and failing tremendously.

Dug out my Saturn. Panzer Dragoon, PDZ, and also the Williams disc, mostly getting higher scores on Bubbles and Robotron. And Shinobi Legions.

I'm working my way through Resident Evil 0,1,2,3,CV and 4 on the Gamecube - had them on my backlog since they were released!

Yep, still working. In between breaks and shifts though, my switch has been having a hammering with Resident evil 4,5,original and zero...although i forgot how tedious resi5 gets towards the end. I can not for the life of me remember the layout of the x,y,b,a buttons on the switch so constantly fail on the panic button mash boss battle bits.
Also replaying the Vita version of Uncharted.

What is it about cocktail cabs that is so sexy? Perhaps it is the glass top - I love glass top tables.

And Gauntlet? Now you're just teasing. Or trolling. How do you play one on each side at the same time? I want a new 2D version of Gauntlet...

Myself I play the same as most days: WoW Classic. And now there are queues even on other days than Sundays so I'm not alone here it seems. Zul Gurub raid coming up on Sunday.

With a my nearly 3 year old not in nursey I've less time for games as am zonked at night - though I've started to introduce him to games in small doses with Mario and Sonic, so he now asks me to play pretty much daily!

Glad to hear the SG1000 is getting some action Nick!

It's old. Been in my shed for a few years as didn't have time to deal with it. Strangely enough, I've got some time on my hands right now
The top is perspex and scratched to buggery :( so as soon as this lock down rubbish finishes, I'm off to the local glass shop to get a new glass top for it.
As for 2 players, the joysticks and buttons are on one side, so we sit next to each other.
Loaded up the Amiga Emu on it earlier and we were playing Alien Breed: Tower Assault. That was awesome! :D
