Retro Gamer - Issue 206

Post by Crusty Starfish » Tue Apr 14, 2020 7:33 pm

The postman arrived yesterday (hard to tell if their absence is due to Easter weekend or they all have Covid19).

But in the pile of 3 letters was issue 206 :) (a somewhat lighter edition)

Will list contents when I get back to it tomorrow. Some very good stuff to read though, so looking forward to diverting some of my busy days towards this. God I wish a new mag fell through the letterbox every couple of days!

There's a note on the www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk sign-up page that says you have to have an email address registered with support before you can set up an account on the site. Your email address is registered automatically when you buy a back issue or set up a subscription on the site, I don't know if there are other ways of registering it.

If you set up your subscription over the phone and haven't ever bought back issues online then that could be why you're having problems. Just a thought.

I *think* your current email address gets registered with support if you fill out the form at the link below. It's worth a try anyway. :)

Had the time to read through issue 206, and enjoyed it.
Favourite pieces were Soleil and the history of Disaster Report, but once again a great mix of subjects.

Not received mine yet but then I have only had two postal deliveries in nearly three weeks.
Maybe it will arrive tomorrow.

Mine is still at the door where it landed. It should be Corona free now.

I read the digital edition of issue 206 while I await the printed edition to arrive at my house after lockdown.

The Impact of Half-Life: Must still read the article. Looks promising.
The making of Grand Prix Simulator: Nothing special.
Liked the article about Ant Attack and its sequels how they were created.
Ultimate Guide: S.C.I.: Oh yes I remember this game from Christmas '90. One of my friends bought it on tape for his C64 and I would borrow it occasionally. As the article states, the screenshots of the Amiga version in the game magazines at the time looked infinitely better.
The Making of Suicide Express: Nice trivia about the speech used in the game. Wanted to buy C64 after that when I saw it running at my friend's.
History of Disaster Report and Ultimate Guide: Soleil: Never heard about these games. Will read about them later.
Stamps of the world: An article about stamps with a videogame-theme. This is why I like RetroGamer :)
Bluffer's Guide to Wrestling: Sorry, was never a fan of these types of games. Probably won't read it.
In the chair with... Simon Brattel: Never played any of his games, but it is a nice read.
Classic Moments: Toystory: This game pushed the limits of the MegaDrive. There is a great video by its programmer how the 3D-effect was created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhMMK3QLxSM

Where can we get the digital version? I created an account at MyFavouriteMagazines but I don't see anywhere in my account where I can download a pdf.

Hopefully this information on the MFM website should help, but let us know if it doesn't.

I could be wrong, Nick, but I think Charco meant that he's a subscriber and he's looking for the free digital copy of RG 206 that subs got. It was emailed rather than having to download it, I think, I never got mine. So is it possible that he was missed off the bulk email list for some technical reason?

Correct, I am a subscriber. I didn't receive any email with a link. I'd rather read the physical copy, but who knows how long until things will be back to normal for those going out in the post. At least I could read them digitally if this is going to take a few months.
