Questions for Stefano Arhnold (TecToy)

Post by merman » Mon Nov 18, 2019 9:57 am

My latest interview for In The Chair is taking place at the end of November, and will be with Stefano Arhnold - the current president of Tec Toy.

Stefano has been with the company since 1987, when it signed licensing agreements with Sega to build its hardware for sale in the Brazilian market.

As well as hardware, Tec Toy localised and published many games for Brazil.
A good example is the localised versions of the Wonderboy games, known in Brazil as Monica's Gang.

In recent years Tec Toy has built "mini" consoles, including an authorised Mega Drive Mini before Sega started work on their own version.
Tec Toy was also part of the Zeebo console, more on which will appear in the article.

TecToy released both brand new Master System games like Street Fighter II, and localised versions of existing games. How were these created - did you have local programmers in Brazil, or were they done elsewhere?

How on earth did you keep the Master System alive for so long (bravo!)?

Following on from Nick's question, were there other games that you were hoping to port but couldn't get permission? Any that were done but not released?

when doing the porting, did you try and make the games better, or just a straight localisation?

So had a fascinating hour chatting to Stefano, now to transcribe it and get the article into shape for issue 203...

There is probably going to be a lot of extra material here.
