I can't choose between Wario Ware on the GB SP or Everybody's Golf on the PSP. Both came in very handy for passing time when traveling before I got a smart phone.

Super Mario Land on Gameboy hit that perfect point for me, in terms of playability, lastability and difficulty level, it just got everything right.

I have big nostalgia feels for Super Mario Land here. I played during the school French trip, completing it with a Light Boy under the covers whilst the locals celebrated with fireworks late in to the night. The game was a challenge for 11 year old me but was elated to see the end of the game (and that music!).

Between the Switch and the GPD Win, practically everything is a handheld game these days.

For a delve back in time though, I'd look to Link's Awakening as a game that really set the standard for what could be achieved. That the recent remake changes so little - obvious graphical makeover aside - stands as testament to how much it got right.

For something really obscure though, how about Mazera on the Palm Pilot. Did anyone else ever play that?

I started with handhelds with the original DS, but since then probably my alltime favourite is Ocarina of Time 3DS. Such a good game for taking away on long business plane trips.

Just to add to my post above, why Nintendo haven't developed a WarioWare game for iOS/Android I'll never know. The simple nature of it and the touch screen interface would seem perfect for it.

well i only had a game boy so the likes of TETRIS, SUPER MARIO LAND, DYNABLASTER and TOP RANK TENNIS. but also WWF SUPERSTARS, TINY TOONS ADVENTURES BABS BIG BREAK and KRUSTYS FUN HOUSE

Way cool! Handheld games can cover so much. I won't count Simon although a great game in its own right.

As a title for a handheld console- one game that had me hooked was Chips Challenge on Atari Lynx. I had bought a few titles when I bought the Lynx, and this one here was the surprising addiction.

Going further back, I'm thinking the Casio MG880 'Invaders' numbers game Calculator, and Nintendo Game and Watches....Fire and Snoopy Tennis especially.

Although I started with the original Game Boy, I have to say Order of Ecclesia for the Nintendo DS. I love the Igavania games and for me Ecclesia is the absolute best. It also has some of the best boss fights ever.

Invaders 1000 picture brought back happy memories.
I nearly picked Grandstand Scramble, or Game and Watch Donkey Kong but I think my heart belongs to Zelda Links Awakening... I bloody love that game, invested so much time in it... it's the main reason I think I only got a 'Desmond' degree... too much time in Hyrule rather than the university library.
