I have never been a moderator of this forum, nor do I see the relevance of the question.

Antsbull suggested the Spectrum and Amstrad had a similar reputation in his area.

I responded in jest (as made very clear by smiley usage) that he was misinformed regarding the Speccy/Amstrad comparison.

You replied to this jest, quoting me, by giving C64 sales figures and reputation, something that had never been in doubt in the topic, joking or otherwise. Since it was I you quoted, I took this to be a response to me, so I replied.

I think something must have been lost in translation or you missed the joke. Regardless, I was giving my opinion and having fun, since reputation is as much opinion as it is reliability and sales statistics.

Nope. It's reputation is entirely deserved.
This might just be your part of the world, where I'm from, the Spectrum and Amstrad had similar reputations, neither was considered better than the other - and the C64 was thought of well above them.
Yes indeed. C64 was considered THE game computer down here. Atari never really was massive, probably due to local cost I think, although certainly had it's niche, like a cult following. Spectrum was the computer of choice for school kids, with a great supply of C60s of games to swop. Amstrad was a bit too late in the piece to make a big impact, as most had their 8 bits already and were reading and looking forward to the next waves by then. Always felt the Amstrad would have been huge a little earlier in the piece, the independent monitors would have been a massive selling point.

C64 totally outsold the competition in Europe and C64 was considered by most people to be the best games machine.
I don't see the relevance of this to the Amstrad being cheap crap. We know the C64 and Spectrum are the superior gaming platforms, this is well established fact.
Are you still a moderator of this forum?
He's obviously wrong and you are obviously correct. The C64 was considered by most people to be the best games machine. :)

I'm going to sit down tomorrow and have a good read of the Amstrad article :)

Nothing wrong with a bit of banter! We're all old farts now but remember fondly of the schoolyard battles!

Seen a lot worse in the Ford vs Holdens. Or even the Nikon vs Canon with the shutterbugs. We're all too old to take things too seriously

Am I wrong, maybe technically, but here is an old post from Antiriad2097:

As a moderator (well, spambuster, but it equates to much the same for the IT guys since I have limited mod powers to edit/delete posts), we do message one another from time to time regarding action to take for the benefit of the forum. Obviously we don't always want to do that on the forum itself, so a PM facility is a requirement, or at the very least a 'hidden' mod forum section.

I was talking about the C64 thing - don't know who is a Mod (well active) on here!

Bad wording in my old post, it perhaps made sense in context as I'm assuming it was a discussion about mods and the hidden bits of the forum, so my spambuster facilities were relevant.

No, I am not and have never been a moderator in terms of resolving user issues etc.

Yes, I have the ability to delete obvious spam about kitchens, pr0n, viagra etc.

Still not sure why you see this as significant when sharing opinions.

And the Amstrad remains cheap crap.

[Edit]wondering now if you think I was suggesting you couldn't discuss the C64. I wasn't. I just thought it was a weird response to my post where I jested he was misinformed about the Amstrad. I give up anyway. You've got some sort of beef, and I can't be bothered arguing about it, it really isn't important.[/Edit]

I think Amstrad users have to justify their love of the machine as 'normal' people just don't get it :D

I've only ever used Amstrad emulators and not the machine itself - but to me, the games always look like jerky scrolling with coloured in Speccy graphics.

Blocky, garishly coloured in Speccy graphics.

I thought this might cheer up the crew: For once I plan to read the main feature first! (My reading stack is nicely stocked at the moment though.)

This... needs some words.
A bit of a special for us oldtimers and greybeards this round. Much appreciated. It's been a long time since I had so much content that was ticking my boxes.
And somehow you just couldn't help yourselves and used the ZX graphics for Bounty Bob. (Burn the heretics!)
