Questions for Darren 'C64 Mini' Melbourne

Post by DRS » Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:42 pm

Hello all - what with the C64 Mini and Anstream's gaming service being in the news this year, I thought I'd interview a chap who has a hand in both... and was pleasantly surprised to find he's been part of a colossal amount of games over the last 30 odd years. I've pasted some of the looooong list of stuff he's done over the years below and as always, do ask whatever you like. This is for a Desert Island Disks piece for issue 187 and I'll do my best to get your name in the mag. Cheers as always!

So, streaming a pinball game is just fine, right?

You could ask him what he really thinks of David Levy and RCL. I'm not expecting the answers to be publishable though. :)

Regarding the C64 Mini, it'd be nice to know when the firmware update will arrive and what the likely schedule is for the full size and handheld versions. I'd imagine that much of that is still up in the air though.

What would be your dream license to create a game of?

Were you disappointed with the reviews of Hades Nebula and Blazer at the time?

What were the biggest challenges of working with the Game Boy hardware?

Have you got ant unfinished or unreleased games that could see the light of day?

Are you good at playing games yourself?

Thanks for all your questions chaps - spoke to Darren last night and all asked! Including the one about David Levy (though, as predicted, the answer isn't fully publishable...)

Northway, can I be honest and say Darren didn't really understand your question about streaming a pinball game - and neither did I. Can you explain what you were getting at mate? And I shall re-ask via email!

So, thanks all - next castaway will be someone from games journalism, which should be fun.

Try emulating something like Pinball Fantasies (Amiga). I have a download version for my PS3. Totally unplayable, even if it is just the delay from emulation.
So I'm seriously doubting the lag from streaming technology will be acceptable. Have they tried with a pinball game?
