Questions for David Jones

Post by florinthedwarf » Mon Jul 02, 2018 8:26 pm

Hi all!

florinthedwarf here! Also known as Paul Davies 😜

I'm putting together an 'In the Chair' feature with David Jones of Magic Knight fame. If you have any questions you would like me to ask him, please let me know here and I'll put them to him. Maybe yours will get used in the article!

Send as many as you want - the more the better!

Looking forward to hearing what you all want to ask.

Thanks all!

Paul

The Magic Knight games were brilliant!

Would you ever consider making another one?

i always thought that magic knight would have made a good cartoon series myself
better than that bloody egg
think i played them all and might still have them

so my question is

how quick did you change from the game type of FINDERS KEEPERS (which i just played, and yes i still sucked) to SPELLBOUND, and did you think about changing the gameplay for KNIGHT TYME and STORMBRINGER to be different also?

I loved Finders Keepers! What system were you playing on?

Try it on the C64. I'm going to acquire the Speccy rom to compare :)

(Copied from the other thread)

Did you plan your games on paper before coding?

Which was your favourite 8-bit to program on?

Did you hide any Easter Eggs in your games that have not been found?

Did you approach any other publishers with the Magic Knight games?

Any chance of a new Finders Keepers style game on iOS ?

Speccy or C64 ? Which was the best to develop on and what was your favourite in general ?

What did you think of your Magic Knight games (after Finders Keepers) only coming out on budget; especially when they were often better than much of the full price stuff out there?

i have another one
yes quiet you :D

how would you compare your four non-magic knight games, they certainly were different from each other, looking at them on WoS?
and i quite enjoyed playing the demo of hotshots, a nice mix of breakout and pang, pity MJ didn't make the cut

With the Magic Knight games, did he regret letting Metroid beat him to the "main-chracater-is-really-female" reveal?

What lessons did he learn from his 8 bit/16 bit games that helped him when designing Crackdown on Xbox 360?

Seems unlikely but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that a version of Lemmings was considered for the Neo Geo. Is this true?

Did he not fancy converting finders keepers the c16 plus 4 himself?

Did you ever consider making a Magic Knight game for the 16bit machines, Amiga or AtariST.
