Mine was Resident Evil Nemesis. Aside from Nemesis himself lurking I felt there was more path branching and replayability then the second game.

Don't really play many horror games as bar the 'loud noise to make you jump' nothing really scares me in films or games as i know its make believe. I only really play resident evil as i enjoyed the story.

Runner up to Eternal Darkness. More horror on a psychological level then anything. Never finished it as i always got lured by another game but it was enjoyable.

If you'd had asked me that at any point in the last 20 years, I'd have said the original Resident Evil, hands down.
However, having played Alien Isolation earlier this year, that's now a clear favourite in the genre for me.

Alone in the Dark - I'll admit it, I have my nostalgia-ridden rose tinted glasses on for this one, but Alone in the Dark on the 3DO was the first game of this genre that I played, and it blew my mind. It never crossed my mind that gaming and horror could be infused so effectively.

Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, using the remote to target and shoot enemies. It's what the RE: Gun Survivor games should have been like to play. The guy who takes your head off with a chainsaw is genuinely the first decent scare I'd seen in a game since the original Resident Evil's dogs and frogs.

The EU version of Aliens on the Spectrum was pretty good, but you really had to concentrate to get into it. Some sort of directional compass would have helped, and the complete map printed in YS was essential.

Project Firestart. From the "Danger" written in blood to the finish, a game with incredible tension and atmosphere on the C64.

Resident Evil HD - I'd played the original to death and thought I'd breeze through this, only to quickly be proven wrong. The Crimson Head zombies were an inspired addition that totally change the way you needed to approach the game, not to mention scaring the daylights out of me the first time a zombie I'd killed jumped back up to attack me.

For me it's a close shave between Resi Evil 4 or 5.

Resi evil2 amazed me with the 2disc alternate storylines between leon and claire that merge at the end, amazing. Though without yet playing the real game Resident Evil 7VR will be a special experience for sure.

Resident Evil 1 follows closely by Resident Evil 2
Also giving a mention to the remake of 1, Resident Evil 0 & Resident Evil 4

A bit late Paul, the issue with RE is dropping through doors now.
