Issue 159 awesome cover

Post by Shinobi » Thu Sep 08, 2016 12:09 pm

Arrived today, first off one of the best covers you've done in a long time!!!

I've only read the 8 page Streets of Rage 2 which was very good.. I see Hall of the Things friend had this and the cover was evil..

Arcade Pang
Neo Geo cd
Codemasters
Master System Masters of Combat
"Crush the Old Order and CREATE A NEW SOCIETY!"

Looks like I'll have to get this one then!

Always liked that cover art despite the anatomy, accuracy and postures all being shockingly bad!

Shame that the article isn't for the entire series as you could have used the stunning Japanese art for Bare Knuckle III :)
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

(Using this as the feedback thread?)

Another good issue, highlights for me were Pang and Halls of the Things.

First thing I thought when I opened up my subs copy was how terrible the cover was :) Not that it makes any difference to my enjoyment of Retro Gamer though, but it just goes to show one man's delight is another man's disaster.

Hall of The Things was a highlight for me in this issue, I somehow totally missed this first time round. It's very rare I've not heard of a UK game from the early to mid 80s given that's my era really and I read C&VG religiously during the period.

Streets Of Rage II is my favourite progressive beat 'em up of all time and I still fire it up today, so this cover and feature was most welcome!

Many thanks!

Glad you like it. Sonic was our best selling cover outside of issue 100 and Streets Of Rage is tracking similarly. Good to see the Sega love bringing in new readers.

if this is the feedback thread...
the streets of rage 2 article was a bit light on developer input I thought, considering it was a making of.... haven't read the whole issue yet but there have been some strong ones recently, hopefully this will keep the run up.

It's roughly the content we had back for Space Harrier etc. Unfortunately, Japanese developers just don't give a lot of in-depth answers back.

shame that, combined with the fact the poor guy had no memory of a lot of it due to illness - must of been a difficult one to write.
the rest of the issue is pretty good too, history of codemasters was really interesting.

not sure about the NES piece though - it was caught somewhere between advertorial and news item for me, but as I've pre-ordered one of those new-fangled / old-fangled NESES, it was at least useful to get little look at the more obscure stuff on it.

looking forward to the gamecube stuff coming up!

Sorry, there's only one word that sums up that SoR 2 artwork - DERP. Just look at Max's face. RIdiculous.

Yep, the letters Page mentioned it and the response was along the lines of "let's wait until we see how it plays".

But in the meantime let's put it on the front Page, at the head of the contents and 6 pages later on? :?

Can't remember the Blaze Megadrive units or Atari Flashbacks receiving the same coverage.

Maybe if they were made by Nintendo? :)

Not much for me this month.
Liked Hall of the Things, Codemasters and the Neo Geo piece but the rest were of little or no interest to my tastes. All well written and researched as ever... just not for me - mainly about games and systems I just have no interest in.

Last months however... was the best issue for ages in my humble opinion.
