I've gone for Final Fight as it's the only one I've played.

Well, with the abscence of River City Ransom, Punisher Arcade and Alien vs Predator, I'll go with Streets Of Rage II.

Alien Vs Predator gets my vote too. Oh bugger it's not there

Mmm yeah Vendetta was it for me, but Turtles and Final Fight were pretty much on par.

all those scrolling fighters are great except the repetitive /boring/rubbish kung fu master (if its the one by irem i'm thinking of....)
voted final fight, it has a something special - its the only one on the list i go back too time after time.
aliens v prdator should of been on the list, as should the multi screen xmen game from konami and the spiderman game from sega that had a great visual style, and was fun. i think it ran on the same hardware as revenge of death adder (pumped loads of coins into both of those back in the day...). don't think its been emulated either..
...i'm gonna have to check mame now....

Kung-Fu master is a bit rubbish in retrospect but it's a pioneering game. Try Undercover Cops, also by Irem, which is a surprisingly good Final Fight clone (personally I think it's even better)
I have a Golden Axe 2 PCB if anyone wants to pay me good money for it

The winner should be Aliens vs Predator - great visuals, sound effects and a fantastic use of the license. It had moves (I like my fighters to have lots of moves) coming out of its ears and lots of weaponry plus each of the four characters were different to.
I see there has been no mention of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs either. Another top Capcom fighter and a I guess a predecessor to AVP and The Punisher.
Growl was a good fighter but only for the first two levels after which it become a coin guzzler.
But Out of the list I will vote for Target Renegade as I managed once to clock the score around back to zero. Top game - what other game lets you knee somebody in the nuts and then beat them while they are on the floor (except Renegade)?

Yeah Caddies was great.. very clever license. While we're talking Capcom I'm also very fond of the D&D games, Knights of the Round, Warriors of Fate and King of Dragons (which managed to to out-axe Golden Axe)
Punisher is notable for it's early use of over-the-top pick-up weapons if a bit generic for my tastes. Not that I think any later scrolling beat'emup is partcularly ground-breaking you understand
Taito's Light Bringer (Dungeon Magic) is also rather good if you fancy an isometric take on the D&D style scroller.
