They want to combine Sfx and Sci fi now?
Maybe they will do the same with Edge and GamesTM. :?

No, read the article - both could be owned by the Future and the CMA don't see sufficient competition outside of Future. This lack of competition could encourage future to raise the costs or reduce quality.

I subscribe to RG and SFX. SFX have already reduced the quality by killing off the large community they had in the forum, and removing the interaction they used to have in the mag. They also removed useful info from the reviews (cost being the main one), and making it into a mag more about comics than SF. I've been thinking about stopping it for a while.

The deal has now been given clearance to go ahead, as Future has agreed to ring-fence SciFiNow. Completion of the deal is targeted for next Friday, shortly after issue 161 goes to print.

If Future close either Games TM or Retro Gamer I'll be f*cking furious. They're two of my favourite magazines and they're not up their own arses the way Edge is.

This is how capitalism works though. If you can't beat your competition any other way, buy them and their products and then scrap your competitor's products (products which a lot of people enjoy). Future = capitalist pigs. *snort* *snort*

That's good news... possibly. I don't suppose you can tell us how long the Scifi Now's ring fence will last, Nick? I can imagine that Future would publish it for a few years, then start to reduce their costs.

I was surprised to discover volume 2 of Future's Classic Gaming bookazine in WH Smith. Much better than the first edition, but it still reads like a simplified version of Retro Gamer.

Hm. EDGE and GamesTM are deffo targeting much of a common reader base IMO. I see the possibility of much red ink spilled.

One can but hope the paper quality will improve.

Read this thread, RG is doing just fine.

To my knowledge, it was Nintendo that canned that mag not Future as it was not in line with their digital media plans (being physical media).

Well it's a done deal, so time will tell what it means to the readers/subscribers. I reserve judgement and hope they take opinions on board. I for one am an old fart and won't be forced to buy something I don't want. I am only interested in RG on a regular basis, simple as that.

A while back Future shut down all their messageboards(Sfx, Total Film etc).
Is the same gonna happen to this forum?
I would be so bummed if that happened. :(

I couldn't possibly tell you I'm afraid. We've certainly not been told anything to that affect at the moment.
