Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
*see post below for cover & contents*
So, after the subscription copies were late to arrive we need a new thread to actually discuss the issue itself.
Here's my thoughts. Another varied selection.
Personal highlights for me were Martyn's brilliant Making of Jumping Jack (for some interesting insights into a lesser-mentioned game) and Kieren's in-depth look at Audiogenic (I learnt a few things, which is always good).
The top weapons article was good too, thanks to the developer insights. And welcome to the writing team for Tom Chandock with his Dreamcast Minority Report.

Another great issue...well done team RG.
The only slight annoyance for me (and i may have mentioned this before) is that you think about changing some of the type face and background colours?
In particular the white type face on the luminous Orange background.
I find it very difficult to read.

Probably the blandest cover ever, the Neo Geo really was a dull looking machine.
Thankfully redeemed by Kevin Tom's reassuringly friendly face.

I havent bought mine yet but i must agree the cover is bland. That said i don't sit and stare at the covers so not a massive issue! Im looking forward to this one will try and pick it up later.
Re: Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
Surprised at those comments myself, I always loved the look of the Neo Geo!
Re: Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
Enjoying it so far, but was surprised to read about the Neo Geo having a launch price of $6499.00! No wonder it didn't shift many units...

Re: Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
That was my fault. I had to add a few little things to the article and missed it when I went back through it.
Re: Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
Bit harsh perhaps, just not a fan of the look of the machine at all.The Laird wrote:Surprised at those comments myself, I always loved the look of the Neo Geo!
Still, the Toms interview & Jumping Jack feature look good, will look forward to this one, but about 4 issues behind (still on the F-Zero cover one.)

Re: Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
I had a flick through and am looking forward to reading the Neo Geo feature. As a kid it was virtually mythical to me - a console that was just as good as the arcades. Never saw one in the flesh until a couple of years ago due to the huge price tag it always had.
On another note, I did read the interview at the end of the mag with the girl who makes gaming art. This is the first time I recall seeing this section feature an artist so it was refreshing to see! As a pixel bead artist I'll add getting interviewed by Retro Gamer to my life goals! And that's not sarcasm by the way!!

Always wanted a Neo Geo, would def pick this up to read about it, but the cover isn't the most appealing in the world. Maybe just a change after a few more arty covers.

Re: Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
Looks like a good issue to pick up, lots of variety and good to see a good feature on the Neo.
I like the cover myself...dare I say it, a bit more 'adult' looking than cute characters etc. I like a nice photo of a classic console on the cover personally. Would like to see a cover with a lovely PCE pic (and super long feature to go with it)

Loved the Jumping Jack article, one of the best since the Chariot Race article many issues ago. Also enjoyed the Kevin Toms interview and the H.E.R.O article. Great stuff.

Re: Retro Gamer issue 146 feedback thread
Just read the Jumping Jack article.
There's mention of a C64 version that never went anywhere. Should this be on Games That Weren't, or is it only games that actually started development that are on there?
I'd also like to know what happened to his last Speccy game, Masterspy. Since it was complete, it would be nice to have a go, but there's no mention of it on World of Spectrum, even as an MIA game. Is it lost forever, did Albert say anything about that?
