Retro Gamer - Issue 145

Post by psj3809 » Mon Aug 10, 2015 6:24 am

Just arrived, think some of you might have seen the cover on Facebook or on Darrans twitter feed

Space Harrier on the front, looks great. Articles reallygood.
Arkanoid - Love this game
Bruce Lee - One of my all time favourites, wish there was a proper sequel. A classic game, shame its just too easy
Bards Tale - Looks good, a classic
Acorn Electron - Must admit not a fan of this. Does say 'Acron' in the top right hand corner ;) (Trainspotter award !)
Top 25 PC Engine games - Never had one as a kid, love the games on it though
Alleykat - Never played this before, seems interesting
New Generation Software - Looks good, love the company for the classic Trashman games

Good issue for me, couple of arcade articles.

Next month - Metal Gear, Broken Sword, Kevin Toms, Top 25 BBC games

Always nice to see some Atari 8-bit coverage and Space Harrier should be a great read.

Here is the cover for those who haven't seen it:

This arrived today.
Think it is the last issue of my current subscription - as I phoned and cancelled a few weeks back.
I'm in two minds as to whether that was a mistake or not - and whether to re-subscribe... the contents of this issue are a bit so-so for me in terms of my gaming interests (as they have been for the last 3 months) so I'll keep pondering.

Will still read it all though.

Just flicked through and for me, this looks to be the best issue for a few months (according to my tastes). Really looking forward to loads of this issue :D

Actually complete Space Harrier the other month (by using lots of credits and continues !). Its a long game ! The later levels feature mostly the bosses over and over. Still a classic game though

Wow, I really enjoyed reading this one through today.

Hope people enjoy the Simon Pick interview, there will be a DVD extras thread later in the week.

The Space Harrier piece was brilliant, the Bard's Tale article was full of so many interesting details and I was fascinated to read the making of Bruce Lee. (Although it did fail to mention the brilliant Bruce Lee II released on C64 this year).

But I also want to say well done to the designers, some very stylish work this month.

Delivered yesterday ! Cracking issue all through - especially remembering the BBC's poor nephew, Bruce Lee, Arkanoid and the National VIdeogame Arcade - and I went to purchase Space Harrier immediately !

I'm about three or four issues behind (I read them in chronological order cover to cover) but I had a skim through this and really can't wait to get to it. It's one of those issues where I'm really interested in pretty much every article, and that cover is an absolute joy!

Loved the articales on Bruce Lee, Arkenoid and Space Harrier. Havn't got round to reading the rest but looking forward to reading The History of The Bards Tale as remember playing this back in the day on my old PC and the PC Engine top 25 list.
Atari 800XL thrashes the C64 every time!!!

A really good issue! As everyone said, the cover is awesome and the Japanese text on the front reminds me of Super Play.

I particularly enjoyed the Arkanoid and Simon Pick features. Simon Pick's a guy I know more for his later games so it was great to learn more about his earlier days! And Space Harrier's always an interesting game to read about.

Good stuff!

I'll look forward to reading the article on Bruce Lee. I'm not entirely sure if it's a good game but I LOVE IT.
