Sorry to hear buddy. I know of two newsagents which sells the airfreight Retro Gamer. One is 15 minutes away and the other is 30 minutes away.
Re: Bookazines / Specials
I just picked this up too and did a video review of it for those interested.kiwimike wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2017 3:17 amHmm. Yeah, I bought vol 1, which is a nice coffee table style thing but not really anything in depth or you haven't read before. Nice layout though. Looked at vol 2 but bought a practical painter bookazine instead, not sure if I really need a vol 2 or 3 tbhknight_beat wrote:I was surprised to discover that Classic Gaming bookazine has received a 3rd volume. I expected Future to cancel the series now they own Retro Gamer, but it seems they're taking a different approach. The 3rd edition contains articles previously published in GamesTM's Retro section. I'm sure I recognise most from the Retro Vol 8 bookazine.
I'm not sure what, if anything, this means for GTM's own Retro bookazine. Hopefully, it won't affect it in the slightest and Future will continue to publish an annual edition during the latter half of the year.
Re: Bookazines / Specials
Incidently, bought 'Practical Painter' bookazine from My favourite mags late April. Got confirmation it was dispatched May 7th. No sign yet but would expect it to be another week or two at least in past experience (international deliveries) as they do tend to take 3-4 weeks on average. So yes, you will find quite a difference between Imagine and future in that regard.
In terms of the mag itself- Well, been saying for ages an e reader and digital sub would be the go for me to save not only freight costs but physical space

It seems Edge have a new bookazine out and very nice it is too. It's called The Life of the Pixel and I have done a short video review of it: https://youtu.be/tW96DVqZv4s

Re: Bookazines / Specials
That looks very familiar, is it a re-release? Could swear I bought that, or something very similar, a few years ago.

It's been out a while now, kept an eye on it to maybe grab in one of the favourite mag weekend site specials
Re: Bookazines / Specials
Ah ok! I've never seen it before, but it just popped up in my local WHSmith so I bought it.
Re: Bookazines / Specials
Yeah, looks good though
It hasn't dropped in price as much as the Edge 100 bookazine has, and probably will get it if there's a good price drop or one of those percentage off weekend deals.

Re: Bookazines / Specials
I flipped through the Pixel bookazine at Barnes & Noble (US)... most of it is interviews with artists about their own projects, and not about commercial games. I was hoping to see a mix of coverage, including more about game art. The game spreads are nice, but there is no text to go with them.
Re: Bookazines / Specials
That's a shame. Game art is what I'm particularly interested in. Would like bookazine on game art of the likes of res evil, silent Hill, final fantasy and Zelda etc. Most of the art books are pretty but lack interviews and info. Concept art final renderings and artist interviews is what I'd like to see. ☺Mauricio wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2017 1:20 pmI flipped through the Pixel bookazine at Barnes & Noble (US)... most of it is interviews with artists about their own projects, and not about commercial games. You should certainly watch The Laird's nice video review to be sure, but yes... unfortunately this bookazine didn't work for me.kiwimike wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2017 7:14 pmThat's a shame. Re: Bookazines / Specials
I would like to suggest a Retro Car bookazine. This would be a collection of features, making of's etc themed around car driving games from the likes of Pole Position to Ridge Racer. Over 30 years of car games presented in order of year released finishing with an EndGame of Chase HQ 2 or Out Run.
The cover would be styled similarly to that of classic car magazines.
GX4000's Burnin' Rubber would of course feature!

Like the Haynes Driving Games Manual?

Sort of but not quite. RG's would feature retro titles. The design would be far more colourful than the Haynes clean & plain look. Features would be indepth with interviews, making of's and guides. Perhaps even a Car special of The Unconverted.
Re: Bookazines / Specials
That concept would work for all sorts of different genres of game too, each genre having their own themed layout. Don't know if Darren would thank you for the extra work the idea bringsEric wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2017 10:16 amI would like to suggest a Retro Car bookazine.
