Those ads... again

It's a shame someone has had to go this far. I know that there are people who don't think it is an issue and are happy to ignore it, but as DS said it is of serious concern to a lot of readers. I do find the attitude of some forum members has been very insulting on this subject.DonkeySpank wrote: *****
Craig, no need to lock the thread, I'm out of here. Cancelling my sub right now and won't be back here either. Dudley's attitude stinks and unfortunately it's quite indicative of the attitude RG has taken to this serious issue that concerns it's readership. So I'm voting with my feet.

One final point from me though is that I DO think that this issue should be discussed on here. This is where we find out the views of a large number of readers and it helps people make a decision of what action to take. Yes you are right that people should write a letter of complaint (and Duds, I agree that they have probably received zero, I for one didn't bother to send mine, but I will do it today*), but they should also be able to discuss it and share views with fellow readers.
I will dig out the contact details and edit them into the first post so that people can easily get to them.
*for the record, my problem is not with what is being advertised, it is purely the graphic nature of the ads.
I took the image off because it didn't really add to the debate, for those who didn't see it, it was 2 boxers standing apart in the ring. I.e - as much violence as shoulder up pictures of women is porn.Heavy Stylus wrote:Good grief Duds - where did you find that shockingly uncensored picture?I'll have nightmares for weeks! It's a good job *my* child didn't see it or you'd have to face my wrath!

EDIT: Where did that picture go?
Oh well. I have to admit that I'm often intolerant of narrow-minded people, so I hereby apologise for any comments that may have added to Mister DonkeySpank cancelling his subscription to RG. Sorry about that guys.
It also occurs to me I should probably send Imagine a letter saying I welcome PG rated ads in a magazine filled with 18 rated content if it helps keep the mag viable.

C'mon guys - no fighting. SirClive has his opinion on the ads, and you have yours Duds. You're both right in your own way.
Please can we not get into a heated discussion about the ads *again*.

Right... That does it! The language on this forum is awful and I hold RG to blame! I'm never going to buy the magazine again!SirClive wrote:Thats it, I can't take that kind of abuse from dogshitface.

You don't buy it now. You hide outside WH Smith and steal it from small children.Heavy Stylus wrote:Right... That does it! The language on this forum is awful and I hold RG to blame! I'm never going to buy the magazine again!SirClive wrote:Thats it, I can't take that kind of abuse from dogshitface.

That's it you have a laugh at my expense. My life is hanging by a thread and you make a joke.Heavy Stylus wrote:Right... That does it! The language on this forum is awful and I hold RG to blame! Hover Bover?felgekarp wrote:My memory's a little fuzzy but how many games where you kill and rob hookers have appeared in Retro Gamer?Dudley wrote:At the risk of starting this off again. Finally, I have a real problem with the increasingly pornographic advertising at the back of the mag. I know this is a bugbear so I won't rant about it. Suffice it to say that I don't really want to have to worry about where I've left my copy of RG in case my 3 yr old lad finds it.
Yeah, no problem your 3 year old seeing pics of games where you kill and rob hookers and blow up planets but heaven forbid he should see a PG rated picture of a girl.
If the jugs (and other pottery items) in The Sun are offensive, don't buy the paper.
If the lyrics are explicit, don't buy the CD.
If the TV prog has strong language, don't watch the show.
If the adds in RG are offensive, don't buy the mag.
But if the ads keep the mag going long into the future then we all have to accept them. I still think the idea of making sure there are no features on the ads pages, perhaps perforate these pages so they can be removed.
I'm done. I'off to "mash up some ho's" in hover bover. Failing that, I may just mow the grass.......

Yes, I steal it from them before they can wank over the 'porn'.Dudley wrote:You don't buy it now. You hide outside WH Smith and steal it from small children.Heavy Stylus wrote:Right... That does it! Joshing of course. I'm actually a 'pirate' - I read the magazine in the shops instead of buying it.

Jokes aside - I did used to be a subscriber back in the old Live days, but got stung and lost out on several issues when the mag went under. Since then I've just bought it from Smiths.
