From the forum issue 137 - Favourite Playstation game

Post by NickThorpe » Wed Nov 26, 2014 1:25 pm

You know what time it is! For this month's mailbag section, tell us about your favourite Playstation game.

And yes, for the purposes of this discussion, the Playstation is retro.

Given the sheer volume of diverse PS1 games that's a tricky one.

I'll say Bishi Bashi Special, simply because of the mad fun that I had playing it. It always reminds me of a very happy time in my life.

Ask me again in a couple of minutes & I'd probably give you a different answer!

A very tough one indeed... I'm going to have to choose the game that I probably put the most hours into.... :?

I'll go for Tekken 3 - The sheer amount of characters, combos and play modes was crazy at the time. Playing volleyball as a tiny dinosaur or a crippled old man never gets old

Notable mentions go to Metal Gear Solid and Ridge Racer Type 4 but Tekken 3 just edges it for me

Parappa the Rapper, for being put together in such an original and enchanting style. It's like a living cartoon and I could sit there for hours listening to the great music and wacky lyrics. If only there were more vibrant and unique projects like this...

Castlevania Symphony Of The Night. Just the perfect platform game.

TOCA 2 Touring Cars
The first TOCA was superb, and was the first racing game I ever played where the cars felt like they had real weight to them. TOCA 2 just turned it up to 11 in my opinion with better cars, damage and tracks.

Syphon Filter II. A great experience with an equally good sequel.

This is actually an easy one for me - Metal Gear Solid. It was such a massive leap up from what I was used to playing (Amiga games). I've played through it 11 or 12 times.
I was very disappointed when the Metal Gear Solid HD collection didn't include the low resolution Metal Gear Solid, but did include the high res. later ones that didn't need doing in HD, so I didn't buy it.

Medal of Honor. What a game. Unparalleled atmosphere. Call of Duty would never have been born if it wasn't for the great heroics of its, uh.. granddad.

The original Tenchu. It's still the best stealth game ever made in my opinion.

Argh... So hard to choose... But okay.

Final Fantasy VII - The story, the music, the design, the atmosphere, the death of Aerith... It's just brilliant in every sense of the word.

Jumping Flash is quite unique. A platform game in first person perspective. There isnt many of those around.

Without any doubt it's GTA: London, absolutely hilarious and wonderfully designed game that up until very recently was my favourite game in the Grand Theft Auto series.
