Yeah, I'd agree with that. It's a part of the game that drains far too many of my lives. Also, isn't there an underwater level where collecting air bubbles is essential to survival? I think this is in the second of the three games but regardless, it always kills me.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Skool Daze - the 10-year-old me didn't understand what to do so I just ended up causing mayhem. Which was nice.

I could never find the first tank of Power Bombs in Super Metroid. Took days of trying before the trusty old Nintendo Helpline pointed me in the right direction.

The first bit of Airwolf.
The game looked so good, but the controls meant I bounced around like a pinball and died almost immediately.

7th Guest on PC. The mouse maze in the Cheap MDF rubbish was an absolute nightmare. Even drawing the map as you went along was hard!

Has to the Hobbit, I was stuck at the stupid bulbous eyes on the path...never got past them.
