The one, the only Head Over Heels on the spectrum. Is there anything else to be said?

I've got a soft spot for The Immortal myself, thanks to the Mega Drive release.

Knight Lore. Yes I know it's obvious, but when my friend at school leant it to me (& I asked if it was any good) I was gobsmacked when I first started playing it. Won't ever forget that memory.

Batman on the ZX Spectrum. The Batcave never looked so colourful

Has to be the wonderful Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters

Same here, some other games like Batman and Head over Heels are better but they didnt blow me away like Knight Lore did so that gets my vote.Morkin wrote:Knight Lore. As you say i remember seeing this game for the first time, the graphics were unbelievable back then, way way ahead of any other game out on the Speccy back then. It was like a walking/talking cartoon right there on your Speccy. Crazy but i used to just look for new rooms back then and never really tried to complete it (way too tricky) but despite paying £7.95 just to 'find rooms' the game just blew me away back then. Remember showing it to some friends who were blown away, my dad couldnt believe it as most games back then had pretty basic graphics. Just a very impressive game, to think they did that in 48k !

Gunfright for me, not the impact title but just the wild west setting and shooting minigames sold it for me.
Was never very good at it though

Head Over Heels by a million miles.
Though not forgetting the beautifully rendered Fairlight and way-back original Ant Attack. And one day I'm sure I'll get round to playing Mario RPG. Somewhere down the not-so-impressed list would be CRL's ridiculously delayed 3D Game Maker package on the Spectrum - I remember for months on end phoning the local game shop to see if it was released. Now I have a copy, and it's a bit $h!t.
Viewpoint was good too - a brutally hard isometric shooter. I'm pretty sure the PS1 version had a graphical and audio overhaul compared to the NeoGeo orginal. I tried to rip the excellent soundtrack from level 2, but I suspect it's streamed in synch with the level data (from the way it fades in at the same point when you restart, rather than the music replaying from the beginning). That makes it impossible to extract on its own.

Cobra Triangle on the NES. played brilliantly, full of colour and imagination, and gave you a real desire to see what was going to happen on the next level. Brilliant stuff.

The Great Escape. It was so flexible, letting you work out when, where and how to go about your plan, not being fixed to one solution. Letting the CPU take control of the mundane daily routine was a stroke of genius.

Ditto.Never had the luxury of being a 1 Meg STFM owner, so picked the game up on MD and fell in love with it.Tough, but rewarding game.Going through the spiders lair always stood out for me, plus the gore at the time was superb.NickThorpe wrote:I've got a soft spot for The Immortal myself, thanks to the Mega Drive release.
