I would like to see a balance of all generations not current and really not HD. For me, the core and true creativity of gaming existed within the SD era. I don't want to see last gen stuff bump out older stuff though, a few pages here and there would be interesting though. As it stands, Future Classic is a nice feature.

Can I just say that that poll is like a question from a MENSA test - I am confused :?

And I think the answer is, um.. Vic 20?

I'm happy to see anything up to Dreamcast/PS2/GC/Xbox.

I don't want to see or read iOS/current gen stuff but I accept it might be needed but it wouldn't stop me buying the magazine.

I was thinking of maybe running a making of a last gen game as a tester. Primarily because I share Gabe's concerns as to whether you'd get enough good insight into the game. Does anyone have a particular preference? Halo: Combat Evolved is most popular judging by emails I get.

Arghh!!!! You couldn't have picked a worse one!

It was a joke, though? Right?

It's a 12-year old game that genuinely redefined console shooters. There's little wonder so many people are writing in about it.
I think a lot of readers are actually being quite selfish about this.
I'm not saying we're running a Halo making of any time soon (certainly not this year) but I'm saying that you can't ignore the fact that more and more readers are considering games like Halo to be retro. And if we were to run a making of Halo that's all you would have of that gen content. I'm fully aware what eras of the mag are the most popular and I'm not going to change that any time soon.

I don't like Halo but it is retro and it is an iconic title, would be good to see it in the mag.

Games like Halo will bring in new readers and help the mag grow, Retro Gamer with Halo on the cover would sell huge amounts, no question about that.

It would be weird seeing Halo on the cover as it doesn't really feel 12 years old when you play it but man it's 12 years old!

There's a couple of cracking XBOX features I'd like to do.

Just sayin'

I think you have to remember that the magazine is going to want to appeal to as many people as possible. A game like Halo could well be some readers' first game, therefore having massive nostalgic appeal. A ten year old may have played this giving them one of their fondest memories of gaming and will now be in their twenties looking back on it as a 'retro' game. The magazine has to evolve with this surely?

I for one would love to see some features on early PS2,GC & XBOX titles. I'm 25 and as you can imagine these consoles were a huge part of my teenage years. I'm sure its the same for many older readers looking back at older generations of gaming. I have little-to-no interest in anything before the NES/MS era. I can appreciate it is a major pull for those that were about in the 70's/80's, and there are some enjoy the history lessons. I tend to skip a number of features in the mag but there is always something there to justify a purchase.

Whatever happens there will be a divide as you will never satisfy everyone.

I've always had a 10 year cut off point ever since I started on the mag. I've mentioned this numerous times over the years here.

Yeah I know Darran, that was a joke for all the "what is retro?" crowd
