SMB3, no contest.

But just so we can get more names of games out there, I quite liked Hostages, which as an 8-bit conversion looked amazing, and it's a game crying out for a remake on modern technology.

Not sure I would label it my "favorite", but if it wasn't for the original Super Mario Bros., I wouldn't even be in this forum.

Mario 3. A friend and I once got to the end (we used warp whistles, so "completed" would be inaccurate) in just over half an hour. When we started again with infinite P-wings we thought it was a glitch.

Star Force - a great little shoot-'em-up.
Loved it in the arcade, and even porting it to the NES couldn't spoil the fun.

Actually, the conversions of Gradius and Parodius were pretty good too.
