From the forum issue 114 Platformers
Hi guys, we're running a feature on platformers and would love to know what your favourite one is.
Re: From the forum issue 114 Platformers
I have never been a massive fan of platformers but I adore the Bubble Bobble games, especially the first one. They are are true timeless classics that can warm even the coldest heart.
Re: From the forum issue 114 Platformers
There will probably be a lot of Mario and Sonic mentions, so I'm going to plump for Impossible Mission on the C64. A timeless classic that combines ingenuity, deviousness, and repeatedly stabs at your brain to make it think. If you die, it's your fault, and you can't say that about a lot of platformers.
Re: From the forum issue 114 Platformers
I cant go past the original Bubble Bobble. Its the only platformer I still play yearly - and on multiple formats - since it came out, and I actually dont see that trend stopping anytime soon.
Re: From the forum issue 114 Platformers
For a more modern choice, Spyro the Dragon. It's a tough call between the original and the first sequel but I have fond memories of the first game's music and levels. Sure, there was nothing revolutionary about it but it had charm, a polished design and an ace Stuart Copeland soundtrack. Much better than today's Skylanders incarnation of Spyro.
Retro is a state of mind, and cares not for your puny concepts like dates and calendars.

Pandamonium one and two on psone. Stunning 3d platformers and hard as nails.
Castlevania series - well the earlier ones - gothic horror platforming?

Klonoa on the Playstation always evokes great gaming memories along with the GBA versions. Of the more recent platformers, Rayman Origins on the Vita is/was a cracking platformer. Superb graphics & gameplay which played wonderfully on the Vita.

Wholly unoriginal, I know, but to me Super Mario Bros. 3/Super Mario World are still the pinnacle.

Great Giana Sisters on the Commie 64. This was a great(pun not intended) Super Mario substitute.
