Post by Denny Haynes » Wed Jul 18, 2012 9:15 pm

Has coin-op capers been rested or axed as a feature?
Haven't seen it in some time :(

The feature seems to be on hiatus right now, but I guess if enough people request it, it may return.

It would be interesting to hear which machines people would like to see covered. For reference, the following have already featured:

01: Operation Wolf
02: Space Harrier
03: After Burner
04: Nemesis
05: Double Dragon
06: Super Hang-On
07: Ikari Warriors
08: Donkey Kong
09: Turbo OutRun
10: Missile Command
11: Rastan
12: TMNT

Personally, I think Pang, Darius (triple-width screen!), WEC Le Mans (spinning car!) and the original Street Fighter (pressure pads!) would be good candidates, but obviously there are tons more.

We've not killed it completely. But we'll probably change the format a little, so it's over 6 pages instead of 8.

Yeah thanks for that Darren.

Coin-op capers was my favorite part of the mag, not to take anything away from the rest of the mag but for me i always looked forward to the next coin op feature.

And yes i agree, a little trim down to 6 pages would benefit imo.

Coin-OP Capers always seemed really popular in the feedback threads, seems strange it has been removed. Most retro gamers often cite the arcades as one of the best things from yesteryear and one of the things that they miss most from the modern scene.

When you look at some of the dross the magazine has featured lately we really need this great feature to make a return - with Wrestlefest as the game!!

Yes this is one of the best bits of the mag for me. The more classic arcade stuff the better :D

This feature is a touch of genius because you get to write about both coin-ops and home machinery at the same time. Plus it gets even better with an interview with the original author or someone who ported it somewhere.

...plus it's written with an assurred eloquence and by some bloke called Carroll. Has he written anything else for the mag?

Yeah loved this too, esp Comparing the home ports section, also loved comparing screenshots in old adverts and box art.

I'd love to do one on Mr.Do! possibly my all time fave eighties arcade game. That and Gyruss. Or maybe Time Pilot. Erm...

Any road, the chap that did the rather awesome Datasoft Mr. Do! conversion for the C64 said he'd be up for a chat. Though it would also be nice to do history of the Mr.Do! games, there were three after all, with Mr. Do!s Castle being another cracker, and quite possibly the inspiration for the equally spiffy Rodland.

I'd like to see some other favourites that I always seemed to find in most arcades.....Gauntlet 2, Rolling Thunder or Hard Drivin' would be good! :)

Would love to read that. Thinking of pitching for a Caper myself...

Why not have a vote each month for a new 'caper'.

Maybe Enduro Racer, the SMS had an interesting version of it.
