Besides that, I'd personally say that the games matter much more than the hardware. I mean, that's just me, but still.

Same here, the last thing i want is some 7 page article on hardware specs and add-ons for various old PC's ! A good look at some of the most popular PC games from the 80's/early 90's would be great. But i hope it doesnt turn into a 'need a retrospection about the Voodoo graphics card....' etc (yawn), bring us back some great nostalgic memories about all those old classic PC games we got into

Reading through some old PC mags it confirms my feeling that the PC DOS and Win95 era of gaming was outstanding, and holds as many, if not more, cherish memories of gaming as any of the many consoles I owned over the years.

Super Mario World, Sonkey Kong Country, Mario Kart, Streets of Rage 2, Toejam & Earl, and Sonic (to name but a few) sit right alongside games such as Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Little Big Adventure, Day of the Tentacle, Commander Keen, Jill of the Jungle, Full Throttle, Rise of the Triad, Crusader No Remorse, Diablo 2, Sid & Al's incredible toons.. and many many more in the nostaligia tree for me.

I still play DOS games regularly via DosBox and I have played DOOM 2 (in ZDoom iteration) pretty regularly for the last 20 years.

I am writing a little dedication to DOOM for Retro Spirit Games site, with the emphasis on playing Doom today (source ports, mods, enhancements, Megawads, Total conversions etc).

I F***ing LOVE PC Gaming! Downloadable mods and levels keep games (good ones) going for years and years! Imagine if your favourite SNES, Amiga, Mega Drive etc games had an infinite number of levels, with graphical enhancements every so often that improve the game! Yup, that's PC gaming for you!

Plus I don't have to be gang raped by adverts and social networking sh1te when I play PC games! (Xbox 360, I'm looking at you).

Never liked Civ tbh. BUT will read the article as I know how HUGE this game is.

I'll be looking forward to GamesTM at some point in the future for THAT AMAZING GAME that will be covered (Oh how I wish that had got into RG though)....

Don't we just need history from 50s to 90s for RG? The history of Civilization seems like a very long time and not necessarily relevant

Yeah, me too. It's not just a classic PC game either, but one that got ported to practically everything under the sun.

Hmm i'm not so sure, none of the 8-bit machines received a port as far as i remember, just the 16-bit computers and snes at the time of release i think, though it may have had some unofficial versions since, but theres of loads of games that got ported more.
