LJN feature in mag? Worst games ever made

Post by ChipTune » Sun Jan 16, 2011 4:21 pm

Has there been a feature on LJN yet?

I'd like to know who was responible for the worst games on the NES.. why were they continually given cool movie licenses to produce the stinkiest turds in the history of video games..

Id love to read a feature about them.. a real name and shame.. like paedos having their picture in the paper.

Someone needs to answer for all those fecking dreadful games!

This needs to exist. Or what would be awesome would be an interview with the heads of LJN and ask them WHY....just WHY?! lol

You are aware that LJN were just a publisher/label, and not a developer?

It's a bit like Konami and Ultra - Acclaim acquired LJN and used them as a second label, allowing them to publish more games per year on Nintendo formats (limited by Nintendo's quality policy)

THQ were another one of these. I'm not sure if it was entirely merited or if there was some kind of issue behind the scenes but I recall they released masses of licenced games for the Snes, and SuperPlay pretty much lambasted them at every opportunity, regularly scoring their games below 30%. There definitely seemed to be some bad blood there. Would be interesting to know the back story behind it as THQ are now a fairly large and respected publisher with some great titles released under their label.

I liked some LJN games. Nightmare on Elm Street and Back to the Future were kinda classics in my book. X-men was terrible though.

I heard the gameboy one was good (from the pages of retro gamer no less), but I heard the nes one was pretty lousy.

The Game Boy one is a really good Chuckie Egg clone, which doesn't get repetitive, and has some fiendish levels. The NES one I've never played.

Because comparing people to paedophiles is really going to make them want to give interviews...

Regardless, it'd be fun to have a poll to feature of just retro shamers. I'd have a lot of fun with something like that. To be fair though there's not enough trees in the world to make enough pages for some of the ZX and C64 stinkers that took my money back in the day....bad NES games pale in comparison.

Actually, on second thought - they don’t because a bad NES game cost the same as like 15 sh*te cassette games

Haha, I nice suggestion. :-) When I think of LJN, I often think about the Angry Video Game Nerd and all the bad games... :D

I'm late to the party here, but I don't think the OP played enough LJN games for the NES. LJN games I've enjoyed included Who Framed Roger Rabbit, T & C Surf Designs, MLB, and several WWF games. I didn't enjoy Back to the Future and Friday the 13th as much but they were my cousin's so I didn't spend my mother's money on them... :)

Nightmare on Elm Street was developed by RARE, the same people behind Goldeneye and Donkey Kong Country.

BttFII+III on NES was by Beam Software, the same chaps behind Shadowrun on the SNES.

As Merman pointed out, knowing who developed and who published games is of utmost importance. :)

I have only seen and heard about the bad LJN stuff from that Angry Video Game Nerd bloke.....but would also find it interesting to read a little article about them.

Another company I'd like to see covered is Capstone Software (also known as CRAPstone software) who were responsible for some of the worst PC games I've ever played!
