I can't directly comment on the Commodore 64 article, as I've not read it, but the quote which read something like "The SID chip was totally unique... there has been nothing like it before or since" made me chuckle. I wonder if Atari 8-bit fans would have something to say about that?!? Then again, I've never fully understood the SID chip fanboy mentallity.

Regards,

Shaun.

It depends how you qualify such a statement. In terms of sound, the SID is unique—it's that simple (in the same way that other analogue synths are unique—you can try to emulate them in software, but you'll never get it exactly right).

Sorry Craig, I'm not criticising you for the C64 piece - as I've said, I've not read it. But I've always been under the impression that the Pokey sounds quite similar to the SID, or can be made to do so. Well, considering that the Pokey pre-dates the SID by about four years or so, and the C64 was made to be a cheap Atari 8 bit as Commodore were competing for the American market and Atari showed the world the future of computing and gaming with their early machines.

Regards,

Shaun.

I didn't write the article—I was just opining!

What was everyone's issue with the Diary?

I liked how it indicated what retro releases were coming out for all the current gen consoles as otherwise I wouldn't have heard about some of them.

I liked the content to a point. Found the layout really dull and the piece was probably a bit long for me.

I think he's talking about the one page diary which has now moved to the back of the mag mate ;)

Ah, thought he meant developer diary.

I think the back is a much better place for the whats coming up diary.

Is there an apology for the mistake on the front of this months issue? You know, the Commodore one?

There was not enough Jack Attack articals in Issue 30. Or Issue 29, 28, 27, 26, 25.... I'm guessing there wont be enough Jack Attack articals in Issue 31, 32, 33, 34....

And how come 2 of the top 10 games in the C64 artical ended up in the And the rest screenshot section, when you could have squeezed in 2 screen shots of Jack Attack?

When is Jack Attack 2 going to feature in Retro Revival?

How about an interview with either Kevin Kieller or John Traynor?
