Cool, looks like it's all worked out nice. I want to pop those flaps open.

Cue the "OMG a flying plumber in a Racoon Suit - Are you kidding me" thread.
Why does this bloke appear in every issue.

Actually, yeah. I already think Mario is naff, this image doesn't help. I'm considering not getting the issue because I feel like I'd be betraying my dear, lovely Sega.
(Just kidding. Will totally get it.

)
Do those tabs actually pop open?

Yes! They pop open - although I'll leave mine closed. (well, I opened one of them just to see what was inside - most disappointed there was no Mario shaped choccy!)

Mine has just arrived.
The cover is excellent, not a Mario fan but it's a great idea and works well.
As for the rest of the mag, only had a quick look through but the 2D article looks ace and it's good to see Bionic Commando and Impossible Mission featuring.

I kinda feel like the idea behind this cover has come two issues too early. I'm totally opening all the flaps.

Yeah we're reprinting this one

technically it's not really an advent calendar as there's 25 boxes to open, but I'm sure that's what many will think. Incidentally this is what we had planned when we first announced the Mario feature originally, but it was a little harder to pull off than we'd imagined.
