Beat me too it. I know Mario games are technically good, but the character just puts me off. Someone needs to punch that stupid hat off his self satisfied smug face!

The best moment has to be playing the opening level of a new Mario game right after it's been released. Nintendo pours effort into each Mario game and into making sure you get a euphoric feeling from starting each new one.

My favourite moment in a Mario game would probably be reaching the secret exit of the Cheese Bridge stage in Mario World (fly under the goal posts etc.) Took many, many tries but was so satisfying when I did finally manage it.

Tough one. Would it be getting to the end of the special world in SMW and having 'You are awesome' written in coins as a reward for finishing the levels? I reckon it's probably the first time I got fired off a planet in Galaxy, it's a cracking effect in a superb game.

Even though I love Mario 3, and Mario 1 was totally classic, I'm going to have to go with Super Mario World. There's the perfect amount of secrets, excellent gameplay, a stellar score, and (at the time) mind-blowing graphics. Mario World revolutionized platformers as we know them.

Standing just underneath Bowser as you defeat him at the end of Super Mario World, so it looks like Mario goes up Peach's skirt when she drops.

The first time I went into a ghost house... all that spooky music and the see through bits, quite atmospheric.
Not the greatest Mario fan, but did waste three months of my life playing Super Mario All Stars on the SNES when I should have been out looking for work.
