GamesTM Issue 100

Post by SirClive » Thu Aug 26, 2010 4:42 am

Darran has done a youtube vid for the 100th issue of GamesTM and there is plenty in there for retro fans. Plus there are 100 different covers for the mag!

Well done guys, look forward to having a read.

Looks brilliant. I've only ever bought GamesTM once before, but I'll have to have a look out for this one.

Here's the covers, I want the School Daze/Back 2 Skool one!....

If I got that Parappa The Rapper cover, I think I'd cream. No doubt, though, that I'll repeat what happened with EDGE 200 and get the cover that no one possibly wanted (World Games, for those wondering :( )

100 covers? *sigh*

"The 100 covers we’ve worked so hard on are the perfect way to say thank you to both the readers of the magazine and the games publishers and developers who have helped us along the way. With so many classic and much-loved games represented, everyone will have their ideal cover to search for and I’m looking forward to see what the most popular ones are," said Rick Porter, not adding: "And I hope crazed collectors will buy all 100, so we can all roll around naked on piles of cash."

What a pity the magazine didn't offer real value with this, providing all 100 covers as a bundled extra.

Ooh, love it when magazines do this. Missed out on the Gizmo cover when Empire did it (got Eraserhead instead), so for GamesTM I'll be after either Sonic, Worms or PaRappa.

   So cynical!

I'm looking forward to it. It'll probably be the first time for I don't know how many years that there'll be a magazine on the shelf with a screenshot of a spectrum game on the cover (other than Retro Gamer of course!)

I daresay a few'll go for big bucks on Ebay.

Craig is RIGHT to be cynical.Years back when Gamestm had cover variations on an issue (Animal world crossing i think) i needed a copy of the magazine, for my collection, dreaded Ebay only option.Had to pay way over the top for the magazine and as my bloody inbox was snowed under with people saying:IF you win auction, will you sell it to me, please, please etc.Anywho AS A BLOODY SUBSCRIBER to Gamestm HOW on earth do i get to choose the cover i want?.I DO NOT you send the bloody thing out, so that`s your way of thanking me for subscribing all these years? Bloody p*ss take, like throwing a sheep into tank full of starving sharks-just done to create a feeding frenzy.Bet folks out there rubbing their hands with Glee, buying up issues of the mag, only for them to go straight onto Ebay.IF you wanted my thanks and continued investment, then as Craig said, give away the 100 covers or let us send off for a cover we want.As is?Tempted to phone up yer SUBS dept.and tell you EXACTLY what you can do with yer covers+Thanks!

Of course, another way to deal with this would be to provide the covers to subscribers. This is what 2000 AD's done with its (rare) variant covers. You've either got two copies of the magazine, or a 'double cover' version.

Love it when mags do this, I only buy GamesTM every now and again but will probably pick up one of these.

There are some really superb covers there,

my fave retro ones are: Bubble Bobble, Wizball and Another World.

modern games: BioShock and Portal

2 covers I can put up with, at least then completists have a good chance they can walk into the newsagent and pick up the opposite one from their subs copy for a fiver extra. But 100? Odds are you're never even going to see half of those, never mind own them. Very poor imo. Why have 100 covers when its likely that only a few will be desirable, so the chance of your local newsie actually having one you want is negligible. Its practically a slap in the face: "Hey, we have these cool covers this month. But you can't have one, you have to make do with the poo we sent to your area instead"

 I was shot down, when voicing my 'concerns' to Gamestm, in the Feedback on the magazine section, that i felt they had become Edge:lite-But look what they are doing now...
